Remote data monitoring and collection system with multi-tiered analysis
First Claim
1. A system for remotely monitoring data from a data source, comprising:
- one or more sensors configured to collect data from the data source;
a transceiver assembly communicatively coupled to the one or more sensors, the transceiver assembly including a memory, an application program, and a wireless transceiver, wherein the application program is configured to change at least data collection parameters of the one or more sensors based on instructions from a remotely located analysis unit, the transceiver assembly being configured to;
receive a first data set from the one or more sensors, the received first data set being the data collected by the one or more sensors;
store the first data set in the memory; and
transmit a second data set at a preset duty cycle, via the wireless transceiver, to the analysis unit, wherein the transmitted second data set is a subset of the received first data set; and
transmit a third data set to the analysis unit in response to a signal sent by the analysis unit when analysis of the second data set indicates an anomaly, wherein the transmitted third data set includes a portion of the first data set stored in the memory.

Abstract
A system collects and stores data from a source at a high resolution and/or a high data rate (“more detailed data”) and sends a low-resolution and/or downsampled version of the data (“less detailed data”) to a remote server via a wireless network. The server automatically analyzes the less detailed data to detect an anomaly, such as an arrhythmia, earthquake or failure of a structural member. A two-tiered analysis scheme is used, where the first tier is less specific than the second tier. If the first tier analysis detects or suspects the anomaly, the server signals the data collector to send more detailed data that corresponds to a time period associated with the anomaly. The more specific second tier analyses the more detailed data to verify the anomaly. The server may also store the received data and make it available to a user, such as via a graphical or tabular display.

11. A method for remotely monitoring data from a data source, comprising:
-
collecting data from the data source using one or more sensors; receiving a first data set at a transceiver assembly, the received first data set being the data collected by the one or more sensors; storing the received first data set in a memory of the transceiver assembly; wirelessly transmitting a second data set, at a preset duty cycle, from the transceiver assembly to a remotely located analysis unit, wherein the transmitted second data set is a subset of the received first data set; analyzing the second data set; wirelessly transmitting a third data set from the transceiver assembly to the analysis unit in response to a signal sent by the analysis unit when analysis of the second data set indicates an anomaly, wherein the transmitted third data set includes a portion of the first data set stored in the memory; analyzing the third data set; and displaying a user interface at the analysis unit, the user interface being configured to accept a first user-specified criterion and a second user-specified criterion, wherein analyzing the second data set includes determining if at least a portion of the second data set meets the first user-specified criterion, and analyzing the third data set includes determining if at least a portion of the third data set meets the second user-specified criterion. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16)
