Abstract

Systems and methods for using micro accelerations as a biometric factor for multi-factor authentication, the method including receiving, filtering, and determining an identifying pattern from micro acceleration data representative of the user, storing the identifying pattern for later use in authenticating the identity of the user, and using the identifying pattern as one factor in a multi factor authentication.

Claims

1. A system for using micro accelerations as a biometric identification factor for authentication using an electronic transaction card, comprising:

one or more memory devices storing software instructions;

one or more accelerometers;

one or more processors configured to execute software instructions to perform operations comprising;

receiving micro acceleration data collected by the one or more accelerometers;

filtering the micro acceleration data;

assembling the filtered micro acceleration data into normalized Hausdorff space patterns;

determining, based on the normalized Hausdorff space patterns, an identifying pattern representative of a gait of a user associated with the electronic transaction card, the gait indicating bipedal, biphasic forward propulsion of a center of gravity of a body of the user while walking;

storing the identifying pattern; and

using the stored identifying pattern as one factor in a multi factor authentication to authenticate the identity of the user.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein determining the identifying pattern comprises determining an identifying pattern intentionally configured by the user.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein receiving micro acceleration data comprises receiving micro acceleration data continuously collected while the card is in motion.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the operations further comprise:

comparing the continuously collected data with the stored identifying pattern; and

determining whether the continuously collected data corresponds to the stored identifying pattern.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the operations further comprise authenticating the identity of the user based on the determination of whether the continuously collected data corresponds to the stored identifying pattern.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the operations further comprise communicating with a user device of the user to send a push notification to the user device when the continuously collected data does not correspond to the stored identifying pattern.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein filtering the micro acceleration data comprises filtering the micro acceleration data by a digital signal processor.

8. A method for using micro accelerations as a biometric identification factor for authentication using an electronic transaction card, comprising:

receiving micro acceleration data collected by one or more accelerometers;

filtering the micro acceleration data;

assembling the filtered micro acceleration data into normalized Hausdorff space patterns;

determining, based on the normalized Hausdorff space patterns, an identifying pattern representative of a gait of a user associated with the electronic transaction card, the gait indicating bipedal, biphasic forward propulsion of a center of gravity of a body of the user while walking;

storing the identifying pattern; and

using the stored identifying pattern as one factor in a multi factor authentication to authenticate the identity of the user.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein determining the identifying pattern comprises determining an identifying pattern intentionally configured by the user.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein receiving micro acceleration data comprises receiving micro acceleration data continuously collected while the card is in motion.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising comparing the continuously collected data with the stored identifying pattern and determining whether the continuously collected data corresponds to the stored identifying pattern.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising authenticating the identity of the user based on the determination of whether the continuously collected data corresponds to the stored identifying pattern.

13. The method of claim 12, further comprising communicating with a user device of the user to send a push notification to the user device when the continuously collected data does not correspond to the stored identifying pattern.

14. The method of claim 8, wherein filtering the micro acceleration data comprises filtering the micro acceleration data by a digital signal processor.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions for using micro accelerations as a biometric identification factor for authentication of an electronic transaction card, wherein the instructions, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

receiving micro acceleration data collected by one or more accelerometers;

filtering the micro acceleration data;

assembling the filtered micro acceleration data into normalized Hausdorff space patterns;

determining, based on the normalized Hausdorff space patterns, an identifying pattern representative of a gait of a user associated with the electronic transaction card, the gait indicating bipedal, biphasic forward propulsion of a center of gravity of a body of the user while walking; and

storing the identifying pattern.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein determining the identifying pattern comprises determining an identifying pattern intentionally configured by the user.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein receiving micro acceleration data comprises receiving micro acceleration data continuously collected while the card is in motion.
