Abstract

An implant that has a tubular interior section for implantation into a patient, an exterior section connected to the interior section and an ingrowth member that includes a three-dimensional porous structure. The three-dimensional porous structure is typically located at the inner circumference of the interior section and has desirable properties to facilitate ingrowth of tissue.

Claims

1. An implant comprising a tubular interior section for implantation into a patient and an exterior section connected to the interior section, wherein the interior section comprises a plurality of rods provided at different angles with respect to the longitudinal axis of the implant and with some rods being arranged to be parallel to other rods, wherein each of the rods have a diameter of less than or equal to 500 μ

m, and wherein one or more rods of the plurality of rods has at least one end located radially inwardly with respect to the implant compared to other rods of the plurality of rods.

2. An implant as claimed in claim 1, wherein the rods are arranged circumferentially around the implant.

3. An implant as claimed in claim 1, wherein plural rods are arranged to be parallel and are slanted in different directions with respect to the longitudinal axis of the implant.

4. An implant as claimed in claim 1, wherein one or more of the rods is parallel with respect to the longitudinal axis of the implant.

5. An implant as claimed in claim 1, wherein the rods have a diameter of less than or equal to 450 μ

m, less than or equal to 400 μ

m, less than or equal to 350 μ

m, less than or equal to 300 μ

m, or less than or equal to 250 μ

m.

6. An implant as claimed in claim 1, wherein the interior section comprises an inner interior section part and an outer interior section part, wherein the outer interior section part comprises the plurality of rods.

7. An implant as claimed in claim 6, wherein the plurality of rods connect the inner interior section part to the exterior section.

8. An implant as claimed in claim 7, wherein the inner interior section part is connected to the exterior section solely by the plurality of rods.

9. An implant as claimed in claim 6, wherein the outer interior section part is formed solely from the plurality of rods.

10. An implant as claimed in claim 6, wherein the inner interior section part comprises an ingrowth means.

11. An implant as claimed in claim 1, wherein at an inner end, the interior section extends radially outwardly.

12. An implant as claimed in claim 1, further comprising an anchoring flange extending radially outwardly from the interior section.

13. An implant as claimed in claim 12, wherein the anchoring flange is formed from a mesh.

14. A implant as claimed in claim 1, in combination with a mating lid, bag and/or evacuation device.

18. An implant as claimed in claim 10, wherein the ingrown means is in the form of a mesh.

19. An implant as claimed in claim 1, wherein the rods are straight.

20. An implant as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plurality of rods is in the range of from 5 to 150 rods with plural rods having one end located radially inwardly with respect to the implant wherein the radially inward located ends of the rods all located at the same radius and wherein the opposite ends of the rods located closest to the exterior section of the implant are located at different radii.

21. An implant as claimed in claim 12, wherein the anchoring flange divides the interior section into an inner interior section and an outer interior section.

15. An implant comprising:

an exterior section having a body for attachment to an adaptor or other removable device, first and second ends, and inner and outer surfaces extending between the first and second ends, with the second end having a width extending radially between the inner and outer surfaces of the exterior section;

a tubular mesh having first and second ends; and

a plurality of rods joining the second end of the exterior section to the first end of the tubular mesh, wherein the rods are provided at different angles with respect to the longitudinal axis of the implant with some rods being arranged to be parallel to other rods, and with the rods attached at different points on the width and along the circumstance of the second end of the exterior section, and extend to and attach at different points on the circumference of the first end of the tubular mesh, with the rods providing lesser material than the tubular mesh to reduce adverse reactions thereto by a patient who receives the implant, and wherein one or more rods of the plurality of rods has at least one end located radially inwardly with respect to the implant compared to other rods of the plurality of rods.

16. An implant as claimed in claim 15, wherein the rods have a diameter of less than or equal to 500 μ

m and any member forming the tubular mesh has a thickness that is less than or equal to 500 μ

m.

An implant as claimed in claim 15, wherein the plurality of rods is in the range of from 5 to 150 rods with plural rods having one end located radially inwardly with respect to the implant wherein the radially inward located ends of the rods all located at the same radius and wherein the opposite ends of the rods located closest to the exterior section of the implant are located at different radii.
