1. A method comprising:

  • receiving identifying information associated with a user;

    based on the identifying information, retrieving characteristics associated with the user;

    from a plurality of different types of apparatus, the different types corresponding to different user characteristics, providing the user with an apparatus that corresponds to the retrieved characteristics, wherein;

    the apparatus is configured to provide the user access to at least one of a service and a location,the apparatus comprises at least one of a bracelet and a wristband,the apparatus has an identifier associated therewith that identifies the user, andthe apparatus comprises at least one of a transmitter for electronically transmitting a signal that represents the identifier and a magnetic strip on which is magnetically encoded the identifier and from which the identifier can be obtained by a magnetic reader;

    in connection the user wanting to obtain access to a particular location, obtaining by an interface device the identifier from the apparatus, wherein the interface device includes at least one of a magnetic reader and signal reader configured to obtain the identifier from the apparatus;

    detecting, by the interface device, whether a current is flowing through the bracelet or the wristband;

    receiving by a server the identifier and an indication that the current is flowing from the interface device, wherein the server and the interface device are communicatively connected via a communications network;

    based on the identifier and the indication of the current, determining that the user is authorized to enter the particular location and that the user is wearing the bracelet or wristband;

    communicating by the server to the interface device that the user is authorized to enter the particular location; and

    responsive to the interface device receiving from the server that the user is authorized to enter the particular location, producing by the interface device at least one of a visual or audible signal that indicates the user is authorized to enter the particular location.
