- an elongated member comprising a first end and a second end, wherein the elongated member is tapered along its length;
the first end defining a sleeve opening sized to fit over a shaft of a golf club;
the second end being distal the first end and having an open recess with an internal shape of a bore or a pocket dimensioned to receive an electronic device, wherein the open recess includes a flange, wherein the grip is formed monolithically of molded rubber and wherein a maximum length of the grip is between about 23 cm and about 31 cm,the grip further comprising the electronic device disposed within the open recess, wherein the electronic device comprises a battery and an accelerometer.

The invention provides a golf club configured to house an electronic device such as an RFID tag within a recess within the grip, thereby protecting the device from the stress, shock, and exposure that arises when a golf club is used.
