1. A method comprising:

  • configuring in an electrical power outlet device, a processor and a memory within the electrical power outlet device to execute an application within the electrical power outlet device, wherein the application computes a pattern of usage of the electrical power outlet device;

    configuring in the electrical power outlet device, a set of sensors, a first sensor in the set of sensors being usable to detect an event in an environment wherein the electrical power outlet device is supplying power, wherein the environment comprises elements that are not participating in an electrical circuit that receives power from the electrical power outlet device, and wherein the event is usable by the application to alter the pattern of usage;

    determining, using the processor and the memory within the electrical power outlet device, an autonomous modification of an operation of the electrical power outlet device to be performed responsive to at least one of the pattern of usage and the event; and

    performing the autonomous modification, wherein the operation comprises changing a power supplying state of the electrical power outlet device, and wherein the autonomous modification changes the state without using an external switching apparatus and an external logic implemented outside the electrical power outlet device.
