1. A computer-implemented method for presenting content based on information detected in real time, the method comprising:
- selecting, by a computer system, a winning bid that was submitted by a content provider for a content item that is available for presentation at a presentation device at a physical location;
in response to selecting the winning bid, providing the content item for presentation at the presentation device;
after selecting the winning bid and providing the content item for presentation at the presentation device;
receiving, by the computer system, data that is based on a signal generated by a sensor during presentation of the content item at the presentation device, the sensor located at the physical location of the presentation device, the signal indicating information about viewers that were located in a viewing vicinity of the presentation device during presentation of the content item;
determining, by the computer system and based on the received data, a number of viewers that were located in the viewing vicinity of the presentation device during presentation of the content item, including determining a number of viewers who remained in the viewing vicinity of the presentation device until presentation of the content item completed; and
adjusting, by the computer system, a value of the selected winning bid based on the number of viewers who remained in the viewing vicinity of the presentation device until presentation of the content item completed.
