1. A method of electronically providing content to an electronic device of a user based on the user'"'"'s use of an item that comprises a passive radio frequency transmitter encoded with an item identifier that identifies the item, the passive radio frequency transmitter configured to transmit the item identifier to the electronic device when the electronic device is positioned proximate to the passive radio frequency transmitter, the method comprising:
- receiving, at a remote server and from the electronic device, the item identifier obtained from the passive radio frequency transmitter via the electronic device;
receiving, at the remote server, usage information detailing actions conducted by the user with the item;
determining, at the remote server, that the item identifier is associated in a non-transitory data store with information about one or more events at a geographic location;
based on determining that the item identifier is associated with information about one or more events, determining with a processor of the remote server, that reward content related to the item is available for transmission to the user, wherein the content related to the item includes information about the one or more events associated with the item; and
based on the determination, transmitting the content related to the item to the electronic device of the user.
