Abstract

A wireless device receives messages indicating CSI measurement resources of cells belonging to at least two base stations or belonging to at least two sectors of a base station. The wireless device measures CSI employing at least CSI measurement resources of the cells. The wireless device quantizes the measured CSI jointly across cells and encodes and transmits the jointly quantized CSI. The wireless device receives a resource assignment for data packet(s). The wireless device receives signals carrying the data packets from multiple cells.

Claims

1. A method for use in a wireless device, the method comprising:

receiving, via a first cell of a first sector of a first base station, at least one message indicating channel state information (CSI) measurement resources for each cell of a subset of cells, wherein the subset of cells comprises the first cell of the first sector and at least one second cell of a second sector;

measuring, based on the CSI measurement resources, CSI for the subset of cells;

quantizing the measured CSI jointly across cells of the subset of cells;

transmitting, to the first base station, the jointly quantized CSI;

receiving, via the first sector of the first base station, at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and

receiving signals simultaneously via the first cell of the first sector and the at least one second cell of the second sector, wherein the signals correspond to the at least one packet.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the jointly quantized CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator calculated for the subset of cells.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one message comprises:

a CSI reference signal subframe configuration parameter;

a CSI reference signal antenna port configuration parameter; and

a CSI reference signal radio resource configuration parameter.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the CSI measurement resources determine sub-band or wideband CSI measurement, wherein the wideband CSI measurement corresponds to CSI measurement on a carrier bandwidth.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the CSI measurement resources comprise reference signals in the sub-band or the wideband.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein a physical uplink control channel format determines whether at least one of the following measurements are comprised in the CSI:

a channel quality indicator (CQI);

a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);

a precoding type indicator (PTI);

or

a rank indicator (RI).

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one resource assignment is received from the first base station on one serving cell of the subset of cells.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein a first CSI measurement resource corresponds to a plurality of resource elements in a plurality of subframes on an antenna port in the subset of cells.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the second sector is associated with the first base station.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the second sector is associated with a second base station.

11. A method for use in a first base station, the method comprising:

transmitting, to a wireless device and via a first cell of a first sector of the first base station, at least one message indicating channel state information (CSI) measurement resources for each cell of a subset of cells, wherein the subset of cells comprises the first cell of the first sector and at least one second cell of a second sector;

receiving and decoding jointly quantized CSI, wherein CSI is measured based on the CSI measurement resources for the subset of cells, and the measured CSI is quantized jointly across cells of the subset of cells to generate the jointly quantized CSI;

transmitting, to the wireless device and via the first sector, at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and

transmitting, via the first cell of the first sector, first signals to the wireless device, wherein the first signals correspond to the at least one packet, and wherein second signals corresponding to the at least one packet are transmitted via the at least one second cell of the second sector.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the jointly quantized CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator calculated for the subset of cells.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the at least one message comprises:

a CSI reference signal subframe configuration parameter;

a CSI reference signal antenna port configuration parameter; and

a CSI reference signal radio resource configuration parameter.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the CSI measurement resources determine sub-band or wideband CSI measurement, wherein the wideband CSI measurement corresponds to CSI measurement on a carrier bandwidth.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the CSI measurement resources comprise reference signals in the sub-band or the wideband.

16. The method of claim 11, wherein a physical uplink control channel format determines whether at least one of the following measurements are comprised in the CSI:

a channel quality indicator (CQI);

a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);

a precoding type indicator (PTI);

or

a rank indicator (RI).

17. The method of claim 11, wherein the at least one resource assignment is transmitted by the first base station on one serving cell of the subset of cells.

18. The method of claim 11, wherein a first CSI measurement resource corresponds to a plurality of resource elements in a plurality of subframes on an antenna port in the subset of cells.

19. The method of claim 11, wherein the second sector is associated with the first base station.

20. The method of claim 11, wherein the second sector is associated with a second base station.

21. A wireless device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to;

receive, via a first cell of a first sector of a first base station, at least one message indicating channel state information (CSI) measurement resources for each cell of a subset of cells, wherein the subset of cells comprises the first cell of the first sector and at least one second cell of a second sector;

measure, based on the CSI measurement resources, CSI for the subset of cells;

quantize the measured CSI jointly across cells of the subset of cells;

transmit, to the first base station, the jointly quantized CSI;

receive, via the first sector of the first base station, at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and

receive signals simultaneously via the first cell of the first sector and the at least one second cell of the second sector, wherein the signals correspond to the at least one packet.

22. The wireless device of claim 21, wherein the jointly quantized CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator calculated for the subset of cells.

23. The wireless device of claim 21, wherein the at least one message comprises:

a CSI reference signal subframe configuration parameter;

a CSI reference signal antenna port configuration parameter; and

a CSI reference signal radio resource configuration parameter.

24. The wireless device of claim 21, wherein the CSI measurement resources determine sub-band or wideband CSI measurement, wherein the wideband CSI measurement corresponds to CSI measurement on a carrier bandwidth.

25. The wireless device of claim 24, wherein the CSI measurement resources comprise reference signals in the sub-band or the wideband.

26. The wireless device of claim 21, wherein a physical uplink control channel format determines whether at least one of the following measurements are comprised in the CSI:

a channel quality indicator (CQI);

a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);

a precoding type indicator (PTI);

or

a rank indicator (RI).

27. The wireless device of claim 21, wherein the at least one resource assignment is received from the first base station on one serving cell of the subset of cells.

28. The wireless device of claim 21, wherein a first CSI measurement resource corresponds to a plurality of resource elements in a plurality of subframes on an antenna port in the subset of cells.

29. The wireless device of claim 21, wherein the second sector is associated with the first base station.

30. The wireless device of claim 21, wherein the second sector is associated with a second base station.

31. A first base station comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the first base station to;

transmit, to a wireless device and via a first cell of a first sector of the first base station, at least one message indicating channel state information (CSI) measurement resources for each cell of a subset of cells, wherein the subset of cells comprises the first cell of the first sector and at least one second cell of a second sector;

receive and decode jointly quantized CSI, wherein CSI is measured based on the CSI measurement resources for the subset of cells, and the measured CSI is quantized jointly across cells of the subset of cells to generate the jointly quantized CSI;

transmit, to the wireless device and via the first sector, at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and

transmit, via the first cell of the first sector, first signals to the wireless device, wherein the signals correspond to the at least one packet, and wherein second signals corresponding to the at least one packet are transmitted via the at least one second cell of the second sector.

32. The first base station of claim 31, wherein the jointly quantized CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator calculated for the subset of cells.

33. The first base station of claim 31, wherein the at least one message comprises:

a CSI reference signal subframe configuration parameter;

a CSI reference signal antenna port configuration parameter; and

a CSI reference signal radio resource configuration parameter.

34. The first base station of claim 31, wherein the CSI measurement resources determine sub-band or wideband CSI measurement, wherein the wideband CSI measurement corresponds to CSI measurement on a carrier bandwidth.

35. The first base station of claim 34, wherein the CSI measurement resources comprise reference signals in the sub-band or the wideband.

36. The first base station of claim 31, wherein a physical uplink control channel format determines whether at least one of the following measurements are comprised in the CSI:

a channel quality indicator (CQI);

a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);

a precoding type indicator (PTI);

or

a rank indicator (RI).

37. The first base station of claim 31, wherein the at least one resource assignment is transmitted by the first base station on one serving cell of the subset of cells.

38. The first base station of claim 31, wherein a first CSI measurement resource corresponds to a plurality of resource elements in a plurality of subframes on an antenna port in the subset of cells.

39. The first base station of claim 31, wherein the second sector is associated with the first base station.

40. The first base station of claim 31, wherein the second sector is associated with a second base station.

41. A system comprising:

a first base station; and

a wireless device,

wherein the first base station is configured to;

transmit, to the wireless device and via a first cell of a first sector of the first base station, at least one message indicating channel state information (CSI) measurement resources for each cell of a subset of cells, wherein the subset of cells comprises the first cell of the first sector and at least one second cell of a second sector;

receive and decode jointly quantized CSI;

transmit, to the wireless device and via the first sector, at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and

transmit, via the first cell of the first sector, first signals to the wireless device, wherein the first signals correspond to the at least one packet; and

wherein the wireless device is configured to;

measure, based on the CSI measurement resources, CSI for the subset of cells;

quantize the measured CSI jointly across cells of the subset of cells;

transmit, to the first base station, the jointly quantized CSI; and

receive the first signals and second signals simultaneously via the first cell of the first sector and via the at least one second cell of the second sector.

42. The system of claim 41, wherein an instance of the CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator calculated for the subset of cells.

43. The system of claim 41, wherein the at least one message comprises:

a CSI reference signal subframe configuration parameter;

a CSI reference signal antenna port configuration parameter; and

a CSI reference signal radio resource configuration parameter.

44. The system of claim 41, wherein the CSI measurement resources determine sub-band or wideband CSI measurement, wherein the wideband CSI measurement corresponds to CSI measurement on a carrier bandwidth.

45. The system of claim 44, wherein the CSI measurement resources comprise reference signals in a sub-band or a wideband.

46. The system of claim 41, wherein a physical uplink control channel format determines whether at least one of the following measurements are comprised in the CSI:

a channel quality indicator (CQI);

a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);

a precoding type indicator (PTI);

or

a rank indicator (RI).

47. The system of claim 41, wherein a first CSI measurement resource corresponds to a plurality of resource elements in a plurality of subframes on an antenna port in the subset of cells.

48. The system of claim 41, wherein the wireless device is further configured to:

receive, from the first base station, the at least one resource assignment.

49. The system of claim 41, wherein the second sector is associated with the first base station.

50. The system of claim 41, further comprising a second base station, wherein the second sector is associated with a second base station.
