1. A surgical instrument for cutting and stapling patient tissue, comprising:
- a handle;
a motor configured to output rotary motion;
a drive system operably responsive to said rotary motion;
a power source configured to supply power to said motor;
an elongate shaft extending from said handle;
a disposable loading unit attachable to said elongate shaft, wherein said disposable loading unit comprises;
a first jaw;
a second jaw movable relative to said first jaw between an open position and a closed position, wherein the patient tissue is clamped between said first jaw and said second jaw when said second jaw is in said closed position;
a carrier configured to operably support a staple cartridge;
an anvil; and
a firing member operably responsive to said drive system, wherein said firing member is configured to move within said disposable loading unit during a firing stroke, and wherein said firing member comprises;
a first camming member configured to engage said first jaw during said firing stroke;
a second camming member configured to engage said second jaw during said firing stroke; and
a knife blade configured to incise the patient tissue during said firing stroke; and
a control circuit configured to monitor the current drawn by said motor during said firing stroke and stop said firing stroke when the current drawn by said motor exceeds a threshold value.
