1. A method comprising:
- illuminating, an optical indicia, located in a field of view of an optical reader;
selectively obtaining, by plurality of pixels of an image sensor, image data from the field of view of the optical reader;
exposing a first group of pixels, from amongst the plurality of pixels of the image sensor to obtain a first partial frame of the image data, from a first region of interest, in the field of view, wherein exposing the first group of pixels has a first group start time and a first group end time;
exposing, separately from the first group of pixels, a second group of pixels, from amongst the plurality of pixels, of the image sensor, to obtain a second partial frame of the image data, from a second region of interest, in the field of view, wherein exposing the second group of pixels has a second group start time and a second group end time; and
wherein the first partial frame and the second partial frame of the image data are obtained within a single frame time, and wherein the first group start time and the first group end time are different from the second group start time and the second group end time.

Abstract
The present invention embraces an optical indicia reader, e.g., barcode scanner, that captures images of optical indicia under multiple imaging conditions within the span of a single frame. The reader includes an image sensor having selectively-addressable pixels that can be divided into groups having regions of interest (ROIs) within the reader field of view. Each pixel group is shuttered separately to obtain independent partial frame images under separate imaging conditions.
