1. A rotary electric machine comprising:
- a stator extending along an axis and having a circumferentially spaced series of axially extending teeth defining a similar series of circumferentially spaced winding slots therebetween, the teeth extending radially inward towards the axis, each winding slot having a length extending parallel to the axis,a plurality of stator windings at least partially disposed in each winding slot, andmetallic structure defining a plurality of elongated coolant passageways positioned entirely within each winding slot between and in general engagement with surfaces of the stator windings, each of the passageways having a length extending parallel to the axis of the stator along the entire length of the winding slots, wherein the metallic structures associated with each tooth have first axial ends electrically connected together by a manifold fluidly connecting the metallic structures and second axial ends electrically isolated from one another such that coolant flows along only three sides of each tooth.
