Abstract

A measurement system may comprise a sensor wire and a transceiver unit. The sensor wire may comprise an insertable portion configured to be inserted in a blood vessel of a patient'"'"'s body and two sensors disposed within the insertable portion at a distal end of the sensor wire. The sensors are configured to measure a parameter when inserted inside the patient. The transceiver unit may comprise: a housing adapted to be connected to a proximal end of the sensor wire; and a first communication module within the housing adapted to wirelessly communicate by a communication signal with an external second communication module in order to transfer information to the external second communication module.

Claims

1. A measurement system comprising:

a sensor guide wire comprising;

an insertable portion at a distal end of the sensor guide wire, the insertable portion being insertable into a blood vessel of a patient'"'"'s body,

a first sensor disposed at the insertable portion of the sensor guide wire, wherein the first sensor is configured to measure a first parameter when inserted into the blood vessel of the patient'"'"'s body, and

a second sensor disposed at the insertable portion of the sensor guide wire, the second sensor being configured to measure a second parameter when inserted into the blood vessel of the patient'"'"'s body, wherein the second parameter is different from the first parameter; and

a transceiver unit comprising a housing adapted to be connected to a proximal end of the sensor guide wire, wherein the housing is configured to remain external to the patient'"'"'s body;

a first sensor signal adapting circuitry configured to filter, process, and format signals received from the first sensor relating to the first parameter, and a second sensor signal adapting circuitry configured to filter, process, and format signals received from the second sensor relating to the second parameter, in order to produce first and second filtered, processed and formatted signals containing data relating to the first and second parameters, wherein the first and second sensor signal adapting circuitries are at least partially located in the housing of the transceiver unit;

wherein the transceiver unit further comprises at least one first communication module configured to directly communicate with at least one second communication module housed within an external device so as to transmit data relating to the first and second parameters to the external device.

2. The measurement system of claim 1, wherein the external device is an external dedicated patient monitoring device comprising a monitor, software, and connections for receiving and processing data associated with the first and second parameters.

3. The measurement system of claim 1, wherein the external device is a standard catheterization laboratory monitor.

4. The measurement system of claim 1, wherein the external device is a mobile phone, smartphone, or PDA.

5. The measurement system of claim 1, wherein the external device is a device adapted to send data directly to a mobile phone or smartphone, or PDA.

6. The measurement system of claim 1, wherein:

the first sensor is configured to measure a first physiological parameter,

the second sensor is configured to measure a second physiological parameter, and

the data transferred from the first communication module is data related to the first and second physiological parameters.

7. The measurement system of claim 6, wherein each of the first sensor and the second sensor is configured to measure blood pressure or blood temperature or blood flow or one or more blood analyte concentrations.

8. The measurement system of claim 1, wherein:

the first sensor is configured to measure a physiological parameter,

the second sensor is configured to measure a non-physiological parameter, and

the data transferred from the first communication module is data related to said physiological and said non-physiological parameters.

9. The measurement system of claim 8, wherein:

the first sensor is configured to measure blood pressure or blood temperature or blood flow or one or more blood analyte concentrations, and

the second sensor is configured to measure a magnetic field or a magnetic flux or an X-ray field or an electromagnetic field or an optical signal, or the presence of a metallic instrument, implantable device, or foreign object.

10. The measurement system of claim 1, wherein at least one of the sensor signal adapting circuitries comprises a programmable sensor conditioner, a calibrator, an energy device, and an output amplifier.

11. The measurement system of claim 1, wherein the first sensor and the second sensor are mounted within a jacket or sleeve of the insertable portion at the distal end of the sensor guide wire.

The measurement system of claim 1, wherein the at least one first communication module comprises a single first communication module within the housing, the single first communication module being configured to transfer, via a wireless communication signal, data relating to said first and second parameters to said second communication module.

13. The measurement system of claim 1, wherein the second sensor is configured to measure an optical signal.

14. The measurement system of claim 1, wherein the housing is adapted to be directly connected to the proximal end of the sensor guide wire.
