1. A method of operating a touch screen to perform touch sensing and displaying an image, the method comprising:

  • determining a number of concurrent modes of operation to operate the touch screen, wherein each concurrent mode of operation includes a touch phase and a display phase, the touch sensing is performed during the touch phase, and the image is updated during the display phase;

    for each mode of operation;

    determining one or more portions of the touch screen having a respective level of touch accuracy,operating the one or more portions in one of the touch phase or the display phase at a respective frequency associated with the respective level of touch accuracy;

    wherein;

    the modes of operation and the respective frequency are different with respect to others of the modes of operation when the touch screen operates in the concurrent modes of operation, anddifferent levels of touch accuracy are associated with different durations of the display phase; and

    wherein the one or more portions are different for at least two of a plurality of applications.
