Abstract

The present disclosure generally relates to creating and editing avatars, and navigating avatar selection interfaces. In some examples, an avatar feature user interface includes a plurality of feature options that can be customized to create an avatar. In some examples, different types of avatars can be managed for use in different applications. In some examples, an interface is provided for navigating types of avatars for an application.

Claims

1. An electronic device comprising:

a display apparatus;

one or more processors; and

memory storing one or more programs configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for;

displaying, via the display apparatus, an avatar editing user interface that includes displaying;

an avatar having a plurality of avatar features including avatar hair having a selected avatar hairstyle; and

a plurality of avatar accessory options;

detecting selection of a respective accessory option; and

in response to detecting the selection of the respective accessory option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, changing an appearance of the avatar to include a representation of the respective accessory option, including, in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a first accessory option;

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar; and

modifying a geometry of a first displayed portion of the avatar hair based on the position of the representation of the first accessory option on the avatar, while maintaining the selected avatar hairstyle;

wherein the avatar hair moves in accordance with a simulated physical reaction of the avatar hair to avatar movement based on a physics model, and the simulated physical reaction of the avatar hair to avatar movement based on the physics model changes when the first accessory option is an avatar hat.

2. The electronic device of claim 1, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a second accessory option;

displaying the representation of the second accessory option positioned on the avatar; and

modifying a geometry of a second displayed portion of the avatar hair different from the modified geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair based on the position of the representation of the second accessory option on the avatar, while maintaining the selected avatar hairstyle.

3. The electronic device of claim 1, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

after displaying the representation of the first accessory option position on the avatar, detect selection of a second respective accessory option; and

in response to detecting the selection of the second respective accessory option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, changing the appearance of the avatar to include a representation of the second respective accessory option and the representation of the respective accessory option.

4. The electronic device of claim 1, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

displaying, via the display apparatus, a plurality of avatar hairstyle options;

detecting selection of a second hairstyle option;

in response to detecting the selection of the second hairstyle option, changing the appearance of the avatar from having the selected avatar hairstyle to having the second hairstyle option, including;

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a first type of accessory option, displaying the avatar hair having the second hairstyle option modified in a first manner based on the representation of the respective accessory option; and

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a second type of accessory option, displaying the avatar hair having the second hairstyle option modified in a second manner based on the representation of the respective accessory option.

5. The electronic device of claim 4, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a third type, displaying the avatar hair having the second hairstyle option without modification.

6. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein an appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option is based on one or more characteristics of the avatar hair.

7. The electronic device of claim 1, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in response to detecting a selection of a third hairstyle option, changing the appearance of the avatar from having the selected avatar hairstyle to having the third hairstyle option; and

changing an appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option based on the third hairstyle option.

8. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein:

the first accessory option is avatar glasses; and

modifying the geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair includes displaying the first displayed portion of the avatar hair positioned so as to avoid obstructing at least a portion of the avatar glasses.

9. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein:

the first accessory option is avatar glasses; and

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar includes;

displaying a representation of a reflection on a lens portion of the avatar glasses; and

displaying a representation of a shadow cast by the representation of the avatar glasses that is displayed on at least a portion of the avatar.

10. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein:

the first accessory option is an avatar hat;

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar includes displaying the avatar hat positioned over a portion of the avatar hair; and

modifying the geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair includes displaying the avatar hair having a compressed appearance at a location adjacent a hatline of the avatar hat and expanding as the avatar hair extends from the location adjacent the hatline of the avatar hat.

11. The electronic device of claim 10, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in response to detecting a selection of a second avatar hat option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, replacing the representation of the avatar hat with a representation of the second avatar hat, while maintaining the hatline and the geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair having the compressed appearance at the location adjacent the hatline and expanding as the avatar hair extends from the location adjacent the hatline.

12. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar includes:

displaying a representation of one or more shadows cast by the first accessory option or the avatar hair.

13. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein:

the first accessory option is avatar earrings; and

the avatar earrings move in accordance with a physics model.

14. An electronic device comprising:

a display apparatus;

one or more processors; and

memory storing one or more programs configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for;

displaying, via the display apparatus, an avatar editing user interface that includes displaying;

an avatar having a plurality of avatar features including avatar hair having a selected avatar hairstyle; and

a plurality of avatar accessory options;

detecting selection of a respective accessory option;

in response to detecting the selection of the respective accessory option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, changing an appearance of the avatar to include a representation of the respective accessory option, including, in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a first accessory option;

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar; and

modifying a geometry of a first displayed portion of the avatar hair based on the position of the representation of the first accessory option on the avatar, while maintaining the selected avatar hairstyle;

in response to detecting a selection of a second hairstyle option, changing the appearance of the avatar from having the selected avatar hairstyle to having the second hairstyle option; and

changing an appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option based on the second hairstyle option;

wherein the respective accessory option is an avatar hat, and changing the appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option includes changing a size of the representation of the avatar hat based on a size of the second hairstyle option.

15. The electronic device of claim 14, wherein changing the appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option further includes changing a size of a hatline of the representation of the avatar hat based on the size of the second hairstyle option.

16. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs configured to be executed by one or more processors of an electronic device with a display apparatus, the one or more programs including instructions for:

displaying, via the display apparatus, an avatar editing user interface that includes displaying;

an avatar having a plurality of avatar features including avatar hair having a selected avatar hairstyle; and

a plurality of avatar accessory options;

detecting selection of a respective accessory option; and

in response to detecting the selection of the respective accessory option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, changing an appearance of the avatar to include a representation of the respective accessory option, including, in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a first accessory option;

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar; and

modifying a geometry of a first displayed portion of the avatar hair based on the position of the representation of the first accessory option on the avatar, while maintaining the selected avatar hairstyle;

wherein the avatar hair moves in accordance with a simulated physical reaction of the avatar hair to avatar movement based on a physics model, and the simulated physical reaction of the avatar hair to avatar movement based on the physics model changes when the first accessory option is an avatar hat.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a second accessory option;

displaying the representation of the second accessory option positioned on the avatar; and

modifying a geometry of a second displayed portion of the avatar hair different from the modified geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair based on the position of the representation of the second accessory option on the avatar, while maintaining the selected avatar hairstyle.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

after displaying the representation of the first accessory option position on the avatar, detect selection of a second respective accessory option; and

in response to detecting the selection of the second respective accessory option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, changing the appearance of the avatar to include a representation of the second respective accessory option and the representation of the respective accessory option.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

displaying, via the display apparatus, a plurality of avatar hairstyle options;

detecting selection of a second hairstyle option;

in response to detecting the selection of the second hairstyle option, changing the appearance of the avatar from having the selected avatar hairstyle to having the second hairstyle option, including;

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a first type of accessory option, displaying the avatar hair having the second hairstyle option modified in a first manner based on the representation of the respective accessory option; and

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a second type of accessory option, displaying the avatar hair having the second hairstyle option modified in a second manner based on the representation of the respective accessory option.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 19, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a third type, displaying the avatar hair having the second hairstyle option without modification.

21. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein an appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option is based on one or more characteristics of the avatar hair.

22. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in response to detecting a selection of a third hairstyle option, changing the appearance of the avatar from having the selected avatar hairstyle to having the third hairstyle option; and

changing an appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option based on the third hairstyle option.

23. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein:

the first accessory option is avatar glasses; and

modifying the geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair includes displaying the first displayed portion of the avatar hair positioned so as to avoid obstructing at least a portion of the avatar glasses.

24. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein:

the first accessory option is avatar glasses; and

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar includes;

displaying a representation of a reflection on a lens portion of the avatar glasses; and

displaying a representation of a shadow cast by the representation of the avatar glasses that is displayed on at least a portion of the avatar.

25. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein:

the first accessory option is an avatar hat;

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar includes displaying the avatar hat positioned over a portion of the avatar hair; and

modifying the geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair includes displaying the avatar hair having a compressed appearance at a location adjacent a hatline of the avatar hat and expanding as the avatar hair extends from the location adjacent the hatline of the avatar hat.

26. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 25, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in response to detecting a selection of a second avatar hat option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, replacing the representation of the avatar hat with a representation of the second avatar hat, while maintaining the hatline and the geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair having the compressed appearance at the location adjacent the hatline and expanding as the avatar hair extends from the location adjacent the hatline.

27. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar includes:

displaying a representation of one or more shadows cast by the first accessory option or the avatar hair.

28. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein:

the first accessory option is avatar earrings; and

the avatar earrings move in accordance with a physics model.

29. A method, comprising:

at an electronic device having a display apparatus;

displaying, via the display apparatus, an avatar editing user interface that includes displaying;

an avatar having a plurality of avatar features including avatar hair having a selected avatar hairstyle; and

a plurality of avatar accessory options;

detecting selection of a respective accessory option; and

in response to detecting the selection of the respective accessory option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, changing an appearance of the avatar to include a representation of the respective accessory option, including, in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a first accessory option;

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar; and

modifying a geometry of a first displayed portion of the avatar hair based on the position of the representation of the first accessory option on the avatar, while maintaining the selected avatar hairstyle;

wherein the avatar hair moves in accordance with a simulated physical reaction of the avatar hair to avatar movement based on a physics model, and the simulated physical reaction of the avatar hair to avatar movement based on the physics model changes when the first accessory option is an avatar hat.

30. The method of claim 29, further comprising:

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a second accessory option;

displaying the representation of the second accessory option positioned on the avatar; and

modifying a geometry of a second displayed portion of the avatar hair different from the modified geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair based on the position of the representation of the second accessory option on the avatar, while maintaining the selected avatar hairstyle.

31. The method of claim 29, further comprising:

after displaying the representation of the first accessory option position on the avatar, detect selection of a second respective accessory option; and

in response to detecting the selection of the second respective accessory option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, changing the appearance of the avatar to include a representation of the second respective accessory option and the representation of the respective accessory option.

32. The method of claim 29, further comprising:

displaying, via the display apparatus, a plurality of avatar hairstyle options;

detecting selection of a second hairstyle option;

in response to detecting the selection of the second hairstyle option, changing the appearance of the avatar from having the selected avatar hairstyle to having the second hairstyle option, including;

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a first type of accessory option, displaying the avatar hair having the second hairstyle option modified in a first manner based on the representation of the respective accessory option; and

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a second type of accessory option, displaying the avatar hair having the second hairstyle option modified in a second manner based on the representation of the respective accessory option.

33. The method of claim 32, further comprising:

in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a third type, displaying the avatar hair having the second hairstyle option without modification.

34. The method of claim 29, wherein an appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option is based on one or more characteristics of the avatar hair.

35. The method of claim 29, further comprising:

in response to detecting a selection of a third hairstyle option, changing the appearance of the avatar from having the selected avatar hairstyle to having the third hairstyle option; and

changing an appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option based on the third hairstyle option.

36. The method of claim 29, wherein:

the first accessory option is avatar glasses; and

modifying the geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair includes displaying the first displayed portion of the avatar hair positioned so as to avoid obstructing at least a portion of the avatar glasses.

37. The method of claim 29, wherein:

the first accessory option is avatar glasses; and

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar includes;

displaying a representation of a reflection on a lens portion of the avatar glasses; and

displaying a representation of a shadow cast by the representation of the avatar glasses that is displayed on at least a portion of the avatar.

38. The method of claim 29, wherein:

the first accessory option is an avatar hat;

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar includes displaying the avatar hat positioned over a portion of the avatar hair; and

modifying the geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair includes displaying the avatar hair having a compressed appearance at a location adjacent a hatline of the avatar hat and expanding as the avatar hair extends from the location adjacent the hatline of the avatar hat.

39. The method of claim 38, further comprising:

in response to detecting a selection of a second avatar hat option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, replacing the representation of the avatar hat with a representation of the second avatar hat, while maintaining the hatline and the geometry of the first displayed portion of the avatar hair having the compressed appearance at the location adjacent the hatline and expanding as the avatar hair extends from the location adjacent the hatline.

40. The method of claim 29, wherein displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar includes:

displaying a representation of one or more shadows cast by the first accessory option or the avatar hair.

41. The method of claim 29, wherein:

the first accessory option is avatar earrings; and

the avatar earrings move in accordance with a physics model.

42. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs configured to be executed by one or more processors of an electronic device with a display apparatus, the one or more programs including instructions for:

displaying, via the display apparatus, an avatar editing user interface that includes displaying;

an avatar having a plurality of avatar features including avatar hair having a selected avatar hairstyle; and

a plurality of avatar accessory options;

detecting selection of a respective accessory option;

in response to detecting the selection of the respective accessory option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, changing an appearance of the avatar to include a representation of the respective accessory option, including, in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a first accessory option;

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar; and

modifying a geometry of a first displayed portion of the avatar hair based on the position of the representation of the first accessory option on the avatar, while maintaining the selected avatar hairstyle;

in response to detecting a selection of a second hairstyle option, changing the appearance of the avatar from having the selected avatar hairstyle to having the second hairstyle option; and

changing an appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option based on the second hairstyle option;

wherein the respective accessory option is an avatar hat, and changing the appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option includes changing a size of the representation of the avatar hat based on a size of the second hairstyle option.

43. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 42, wherein changing the appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option further includes changing a size of a hatline of the representation of the avatar hat based on the size of the second hairstyle option.

44. A method, comprising:

at an electronic device having a display apparatus;

displaying, via the display apparatus, an avatar editing user interface that includes displaying;

an avatar having a plurality of avatar features including avatar hair having a selected avatar hairstyle; and

a plurality of avatar accessory options;

detecting selection of a respective accessory option;

in response to detecting the selection of the respective accessory option of the plurality of avatar accessory options, changing an appearance of the avatar to include a representation of the respective accessory option, including, in accordance with a determination that the respective accessory option is a first accessory option;

displaying the representation of the first accessory option positioned on the avatar; and

modifying a geometry of a first displayed portion of the avatar hair based on the position of the representation of the first accessory option on the avatar, while maintaining the selected avatar hairstyle;

in response to detecting a selection of a second hairstyle option, changing the appearance of the avatar from having the selected avatar hairstyle to having the second hairstyle option; and

changing an appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option based on the second hairstyle option;

wherein the respective accessory option is an avatar hat, and changing the appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option includes changing a size of the representation of the avatar hat based on a size of the second hairstyle option.

45. The method of claim 44, wherein changing the appearance of the representation of the respective accessory option further includes changing a size of a hatline of the representation of the avatar hat based on the size of the second hairstyle option.
