1. A method comprising:
- receiving, at a content management computer from a media device, data that indicates selected media content from a list of available media content;
in response to receiving the data;
identifying, by the content management computer, a particular content source of a plurality of content sources for the selected media content, wherein the particular content source is identified based on a network topology of an access network, and wherein the particular content source is identified further based on a network load of the access network; and
identifying, by the content management computer an access rules source for the selected media content, wherein the access rules source is distinct from the particular content source;
sending a first instruction, from the content management computer to the particular content source, to cause the particular content source to send the selected media content to the media device;
sending a second instruction, from the content management computer to the access rules source, to cause the access rules source to send an access rule associated with the selected media content to the media device;
after sending the second instruction, receiving, at the content management computer from a second media device, second data that indicates the selected media content; and
in response to receiving the second data;
identifying the media device as a second particular content source for the selected media content, wherein the media device is identified based on the network topology; and
sending a third instruction, from the content management computer to the media device, to cause the media device to send the selected media content to the second media device, wherein the media device is distinct from the second media device and the particular content source.

Abstract
A method includes receiving, from a set-top box device, data that indicates selected media content from a list of available media content. The method includes locating one or more content sources for the selected media content. The method includes selecting a particular content source from the one or more content sources. The method includes locating an access rules source for the selected media content. The method includes instructing the particular content source to send the selected media content to the set-top box device. The method also includes instructing the access rules source to send an access rule associated with the selected media content to the set-top box device.

1. A method comprising:
-
receiving, at a content management computer from a media device, data that indicates selected media content from a list of available media content; in response to receiving the data; identifying, by the content management computer, a particular content source of a plurality of content sources for the selected media content, wherein the particular content source is identified based on a network topology of an access network, and wherein the particular content source is identified further based on a network load of the access network; and identifying, by the content management computer an access rules source for the selected media content, wherein the access rules source is distinct from the particular content source; sending a first instruction, from the content management computer to the particular content source, to cause the particular content source to send the selected media content to the media device; sending a second instruction, from the content management computer to the access rules source, to cause the access rules source to send an access rule associated with the selected media content to the media device; after sending the second instruction, receiving, at the content management computer from a second media device, second data that indicates the selected media content; and in response to receiving the second data; identifying the media device as a second particular content source for the selected media content, wherein the media device is identified based on the network topology; and sending a third instruction, from the content management computer to the media device, to cause the media device to send the selected media content to the second media device, wherein the media device is distinct from the second media device and the particular content source. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)

9. A system comprising:
-
a processor; a memory accessible to the processor, wherein the memory includes instructions executable by the processor to perform operations comprising; receiving, from a media device, data that indicates selected media content; in response to receiving the data; identifying a particular content source of a plurality of content sources for the selected media content, wherein the particular content source is identified based on a network topology of an access network, and wherein the particular content source is identified further based on a network load of the access network; and identifying an access rules source that includes a first access rule for the selected media content, wherein the access rules source is distinct from the particular content source; sending a first instruction to the particular content source to cause the particular content source to send the selected media content to the media device; sending a second instruction to the access rules source to cause the access rules source to send the first access rule to the media device; after sending the second instruction, receiving, from a second media device, second data that indicates the selected media content; and in response to receiving the second data; identifying the media device as a second particular content source for the selected media content, wherein the media device is identified based on the network topology, and sending a third instruction to the media device to cause the media device to send the selected media content to the second media device, wherein the media device is distinct from the second media device and the particular content source. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 18, 19, 20)
