- a control unit including a memory having stored therein a plurality of closed loop control algorithms for execution and a serializer configured to initiate one or more application programming interface functions associated with one or more operations of a medication delivery device, the medication delivery device configured for communication with the control unit for executing one or more medication delivery functions based on one or more signals received from the control unit;
wherein the control unit is configured to retrieve a first stored closed loop control algorithm for execution from the plurality of stored closed loop control algorithms,wherein the first closed loop control algorithm is compatible with both the control unit and the medication delivery device without the first closed loop control algorithm being modified, andwherein the serializer is configured such that the first closed loop control algorithm can be replaced with a second closed loop control algorithm from the plurality of stored closed loop control algorithms without modifying the control unit.
