1. A method for communicating in a wireless communication network, the method comprising:

  • generating, at a first communication device, one or more trigger frames to trigger an uplink orthogonal frequency multiple access (OFDMA) transmission by multiple second communication devices, wherein each of the one or more trigger frames includes a medium access control (MAC) header portion and a MAC frame body portion, wherein the MAC frame body portion includes (i) a common information field that includes information to indicate common transmission parameters to be used by the multiple second communication devices for the uplink OFDMA transmission, and (ii) one or more per-device information fields that include information to indicate respective transmission parameters to be used by the multiple second communication devices for the uplink OFDMA transmission, wherein;

    the common information field includes an indication of a trigger type, among a plurality of trigger types, wherein the plurality of trigger types includes (i) a basic trigger type configured to prompt the multiple second communication devices to transmit data, which is to be subsequently acknowledged by the first communication device, as part of the uplink OFDMA transmission, and (ii) a beamforming trigger type configured to prompt the multiple second communication devices to transmit beamforming training feedback information as part of the uplink OFDMA transmission, wherein the common information field further includes one or more indications of a guard interval duration and a long training field (LTF) mode to be used by the multiple second communication devices for the uplink OFDMA transmission, andthe per-device information field is formatted according to the indicated trigger type;

    transmitting, with the first communication device, the one or more trigger frames to the multiple second communication devices; and

    receiving, at the first communication device, the triggered uplink OFDMA transmission, wherein the triggered uplink OFDMA transmission includes respective transmissions from the multiple second communication devices.
