1. A method in a user equipment (UE) which communicates in a downlink with a base station of an Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN), the method comprising:

  • receiving, via a downlink control channel, from the E UTRAN, a persistent allocation of persistent downlink resources for hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) transmissions to the UE, that can be used both for a given transmission time interval (TTI) and for future TTIs at a periodic interval;

    determining whether at least one parameter in the downlink control channel is set to a specific bit pattern;

    performing a validation for the persistent allocation on the downlink control channel, wherein the validation is achieved if the at least one parameter is set to the specific bit pattern;

    receiving, via the downlink control channel, from the E-UTRAN, a dynamic allocation of downlink resources; and

    determining whether a cell radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) is present on the downlink control channel for a TTI for which the UE has persistent downlink resources and, when the C-RNTI is present, determining that a resource allocation indicated on the downlink control channel for that TTI overrides the persistent allocation for that TTI so that the UE does not decode persistent downlink resources.
