1. A stapling instrument having a tool assembly for use with a robotic surgical stapling device, the tool assembly comprising:

  • an anvil and a cartridge assembly, the cartridge assembly having a plurality of fasteners, the anvil and cartridge assembly having a spaced position and an approximated position, the anvil and cartridge assembly defining a tissue gap in the approximated position;

    a clamp member being movable to move the anvil and cartridge assembly to the approximated position;

    means to eject the plurality of fasteners from the cartridge assembly into tissue;

    a clamping member movably positioned in relation to the anvil and cartridge assembly to maintain the tissue gap, the clamping member engaging a cam surface of the tool assembly; and

    a flexible cable connected to the clamping member, the flexible cable being longitudinally movable within the stapling instrument to move the clamping member longitudinally in relation to the anvil and the cartridge assembly to maintain the tissue gap.
