Laptop-to-tablet mode adaptation
First Claim
1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:
- detecting a hardware configuration change of a personal computing device from a first configuration to a second configuration;
in response to detecting the hardware configuration change to the second configuration, maximizing a plurality of open windows in a user interface displayed by the personal computing device;
stacking the maximized plurality of open windows for display in the user interface;
detecting a hardware configuration change of the personal computing device from the second configuration to the first configuration; and
in response to detecting the hardware configuration change to the first configuration, spreading the plurality of open windows across the user interface displayed by the personal computing device, wherein at least an interactive portion of each of the plurality of open windows is accessible in the displayed user interface.

Abstract
According to one embodiment of the present disclosure a computer-implemented method for automatically transitioning a user interface in a personal computing device between a laptop mode and a tablet mode is provided. The method includes detecting a hardware configuration change in the personal computing device. When the hardware configuration changes to a tablet mode, the method includes maximizing an active window in a display of the personal computing device and maximizing a second, inactive window, underneath the active window. And when the hardware configuration changes to a laptop mode, the method includes configuring the user interface to a windows icons menus and pointers (WIMP) mode. According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a personal computing device having a base portion coupled to a display portion is provided. The personal computing device is configured to perform a computer-implemented method as described above.
