First Claim
1. A method for securely communicating information from electronic marketplace systems to one or more host devices, the method comprising:
- maintaining, by the one or more host devices, a common catalog of items that maps related items across the electronic marketplace systems, the electronic marketplace systems being associated with multiple different merchants;
storing, by the one or more host devices, first item data representing one or more items from a first merchant that have been selected from the electronic marketplace systems;
aggregating, by the one or more host devices, transactional data associated with the one or more items that have been selected from the electronic marketplace systems;
determining that the first item data representing the one or more items maps to second item data representing a complementary item in the common catalog of items being offered for acquisition by a second merchant;
determining that the first merchant has provided an approval for the complementary item to be acquired with the one or more items, wherein the second merchant is different than the first merchant, and the complementary item is different than the one or more items;
causing, by the one or more host devices and via a user interface, a representation of the complementary item to be displayed; and
causing, by the one or more host devices, the second data item representing the complementary item to be stored with the first item data representing the one or more items and the transactional data.

Abstract
A shared “universal” virtual shopping cart (“the cart”) may be provided by a host to enable information sharing between multiple disparate electronic marketplaces provided by various merchants. The host may obtain user information via the cart to improve interactions with a user. The host may recommend an item to the user that is offered at a lower price and related to an item retained in the user'"'"'s cart. The host may also recommend items based on a user'"'"'s purchase history, such as complementary items (e.g., up-sell items) and items other users may recommend. In some aspects, the host may compile best selling lists based on data from multiple electronic marketplaces. The host may also perform user specific operations such as indicate an item in a cart is a duplicate of a previous purchase and monitor a price and/or available quantities of an item in the cart.

8. A computing device comprising:
-
one or more processors; and memory storing instructions that, upon execution by the one or more processors, cause the computing device to; receive, via a user interface, a request from a first merchant to add a first item to a data store storing items offered for acquisition by multiple different merchants; add, based on a selection of a first representation of the first item, the first item offered for acquisition by the first merchant to the data store; determine that the first merchant has provided approval for a second item to be offered for acquisition with the first item, wherein; the second item is offered for acquisition by a second merchant that is different than the first merchant; and the second item is different than the first item; cause a second representation of the second item to be displayed via the user interface; and enable the second representation of the second item to be selected and the second item to be added to the data store. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13)
