1. A method of locating a player on a network of gaming machines comprising:
- creating a player record for a plurality of persons, each record including at least the person'"'"'s name;
storing each record in a computer memory that is operatively connected to the network;
associating each of at least some of the gaming machines with a unique identifier;
storing the unique identifiers in a computer memory that is operatively connected to the network;
receiving information from a person comprising an object encoded with data at an information device that is associated with each of a corresponding one of at least some of the gaming machines, the received information including data that associates the player with his or her record;
creating a list of records from the stored records of each player who has initiated a gaming session by providing the information at one of the information devices;
storing the list of records in a computer memory that is operatively connected to the network;
receiving the name of a player via a mobile communication device that is operatively connected to the network of gaming machines via a wireless network;
searching the list of records, via a computer processor;
if the player'"'"'s name matches at least one of the names in the list of records, determining the unique identifier associated with the gaming machine where the player has initiated the gaming session; and
displaying on a screen of the mobile computing device an indication that identifies the gaming machine where the player has initiated the gaming session.

Abstract
Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method for creating an electronic log for documenting entries into electronic gaming machines on a network. The network is monitored by a network computing device. People who enter the machines carry mobile computing devices that communicate over a normally operating wireless network. Cooperating among the network computing device and the wireless network results in creating an entry that includes the identify of a person entering one of the gaming machines, the identity of the gaming machine entered, and the reason for entry. The entry is stored in an electronic log.
