1. A system comprising:
- a consumable comprising a housing containing a reservoir, a piston pump pumping mechanism for dispensing a fluid from the reservoir, and a readable element maintaining calibration data characterizing a relationship between delivery of the fluid and actuation of the piston pump pumping mechanism, the piston pump pumping mechanism comprising a mechanism for translating rotation to a linear displacement of a piston coupled to the mechanism, the calibration data comprising an amount of the fluid deliverable from the consumable per stroke of the piston; and
an infusion device having a portion to receive the housing and including an interface to obtain the calibration data from the readable element, an actuation arrangement configured to actuate the piston pump pumping mechanism and a control module coupled to the interface and the actuation arrangement to determine a delivery command based at least in part on the amount of the fluid deliverable from the consumable per stroke of the piston and operate a motor of the actuation arrangement in accordance with the delivery command, wherein the actuation arrangement includes an element configured to rotate the mechanism of the piston pump pumping mechanism and thereby displace the piston in response to rotation of the motor.

Abstract
Infusion systems including infusion devices and consumables and related operating methods are provided. An exemplary method of operating an infusion device operable to deliver a fluid influencing a physiological condition to a body of a user involves a control module of the infusion device obtaining calibration data associated with a consumable coupled to the infusion device via an interface of the infusion device, determining a delivery command for delivering the fluid to the body of the user based at least in part on the calibration data, and operating a pumping mechanism to deliver the fluid from a reservoir of the consumable to the body of the user in accordance with the delivery command.
