1. A waveguide system, comprising:
- an optical power converter;
a coupler;
a processing system including a processor; and
a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising;
receiving, via an optical fiber, first optical power signals, wherein the optical fiber is connected with a light source of a network device;
converting, by the optical power converter, the first optical power signals to electrical energy, wherein the electrical energy is utilized as power by the waveguide system;
receiving, via the optical fiber, second optical communication signals from the network device, wherein the second optical communication signals convey data; and
transmitting, via the coupler, electromagnetic waves that are generated according to the second optical communication signals, wherein the electromagnetic waves propagate along a transmission medium without requiring an electrical return path, and wherein the electromagnetic waves convey the data.
