Abstract

Electronic display systems, including roadside display devices, vehicle-based devices, personal mobile devices, intermediary servers, advertising servers and/or networks, and/or additional external data sources may operate individually or in combination to identify one or more vehicle locations, driving routes, driver and passenger characteristics, driving behavior and patterns, telematics data, and the like. Vehicle and individual characteristics and/or telematics data may be determined based on data received from traffic cameras, vehicle-based devices, personal mobile devices, telematics devices, and/or other data sources, including software applications. Based on the vehicle characteristics, individual characteristics, driving data and driving patterns, telematics data, and the like, content, such as digital display content or audio content, may be determined for output on various devices, such as electronic roadside displays to be viewable by the approaching vehicles, and/or other devices to be accessible by associated individuals via the other devices. Various techniques may be used to determine customized content. Additionally, certain systems may be interactive to allow user responses and follow-up content via on-board vehicle devices or other user devices.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

for each of a plurality of users;

determining, by a first computing device, a second computing device associated with that user;

sending, to the second computing device, instructions for a predetermined application, operating on the second computing device, to determine a second application, operating on the second computing device, which is configured to collect user driving data, wherein the second application is different from the predetermined application, and wherein the second application for a first user, of the plurality of users, is different from the second application of a second user, of the plurality of users; and

sending to the second computing device, instructions for the predetermined application to send, to the first computing device, the user driving data collected by the second application and information identifying the second application;

receiving, by the first computing device, a first bid to provide content to one or more users, of the plurality of users, wherein the first bid comprises bid criteria;

matching, by the first computing device, the bid criteria to the user driving data received from the plurality of users and stored in a memory;

determining, by the first computing device, one or more users associated with the matching user driving data;

retrieving, by the first computing device, the content; and

for each user of the determined one or more users;

sending, by the first computing device and to the second computing device associated with that user, the content; and

sending, to the second computing device and based on the information identifying the second application that collected the user driving data, instructions for the predetermined application to output the content via the second application.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, by the first computing device, the user driving data associated with each of the plurality of users;

calculating, based on an analysis of the user driving data, a driving score associated with each of the plurality of users; and

storing the user driving data and the driving score associated with each of the plurality of users.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein receiving the first bid comprises:

receiving, from a server, one or more bids to provide content to one or more users having the driving score between a first score and a second score, and

selecting the first bid from the one or more bids based on bid selection criteria, and

wherein determining the one or more users comprises determining one or more users, from the plurality of users, having the driving score between the first score and the second score.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein each of the one or more bids comprises bid criteria, a bid amount, and content location information.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the first bid is selected based on at least one of a bid amount, a content output frequency, and a content yield.

6. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

grouping the plurality of users into a plurality of different groups based on the driving score associated with each of the plurality of users; and

providing, to a server, data identifying the plurality of different groups,

wherein receiving the one or more bids comprises receiving, from the server, one or more bids to provide content to one or more users grouped in a first group of the plurality of different groups, and

wherein determining the one or more users comprises determining one or more users grouped in the first group.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein the user driving data associated with each of the plurality of users is collected from one or more of:

sensors of the second computing device associated with that user or sensors associated with a vehicle associated with that user.

8. A first computing device comprising:

one or more processors;

a communication interface; and

at least one memory storing computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the first computing device to;

for each of a plurality of users;

determine a second computing device associated with that user;

send, to the second computing device and via the communication interface, instructions for a predetermined application, operating on the second computing device, to determine a second application, operating on the second computing device, which is configured to collect user driving data, wherein the second application is different from the predetermined application, and wherein the second application for a first user, of the plurality of users, is different from the second application of a second user, of the plurality of users; and

send, to the second computing device and via the communication interface, instructions for the predetermined application to send, to the first computing device, the user driving data collected by the second application and information identifying the second application;

receive, via the communication interface, a first bid to provide content to one or more users of the plurality of users, wherein the first bid comprises bid criteria;

match the bid criteria to the user driving data received from the plurality of users and stored in the at least one memory;

determine one or more users associated with the matching user driving data;

retrieve the content;

for each user of the determined one or more users;

send, to the second computing device associated with that user, the content; and

send, to the second computing device, via the communication interface, and based on the information identifying the second application that collected the user driving data, instructions for the predetermined application to output the content via the second application.

9. The first computing device of claim 8, wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the first computing device to:

receive the user driving data associated with each of the plurality of users;

calculate, based on an analysis of the user driving data, a driving score associated with each of the plurality of users; and

store, in the at least one memory, the user driving data and the driving score associated with each of the plurality of users.

10. The first computing device of claim 9, wherein receiving the first bid comprises:

receiving, from a server and via the communication interface, one or more bids to provide content to one or more users having the driving score between a first score and a second score, and

selecting the first bid from the one or more bids based on bid selection criteria,

wherein determining the one or more users comprises determining one or more users, from the plurality of users, having the driving score between the first score and the second score.

11. The first computing device of claim 10, wherein each of the one or more bids comprises bid criteria, a bid amount, and content location information.

12. The first computing device of claim 10, wherein the first bid is selected based on at least one of a bid amount, a content output frequency, and a content yield.

13. The first computing device of claim 10, wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the first computing device to:

group the plurality of users into a plurality of different groups based on the driving score associated with each of the plurality of users; and

provide, to a server, data identifying the plurality of different groups,

wherein receiving the one or more bids comprises receiving, from the server and via the communication interface, one or more bids to provide content to one or more users grouped in a first group of the plurality of different groups, and

wherein determining the one or more users comprises determining one or more users grouped in the first group.

14. The first computing device of claim 9, wherein the user driving data associated with each of the plurality of users is collected from one or more of:

sensors of the second computing device associated with that user or sensors associated with a vehicle associated with that user.

15. A system comprising:

one or more servers; and

a first computing device, comprising;

one or more first processors;

a first communication interface; and

at least one first memory storing computer-readable first instructions that, when executed by the one or more first processors, cause the first computing device to;

for each of a plurality of users;

determine a second computing device associated with that user;

send, to the second computing device and via the first communication interface, instructions for a predetermined application, operating on the second computing device, to determine a second application, operating on the second computing device, which is configured to collect user driving data, wherein the second application is different from the predetermined application, and wherein the second application for a first user, of the plurality of users, is different from the second application of a second user, of the plurality of users; and

send, to the second computing device and via the first communication interface, instructions for the predetermined application to send, to the first computing device, the user driving data collected by the second application and information identifying the second application;

receive, from the one or more servers and via the first communication interface, a first bid to provide content to one or more users, of the plurality of users, wherein the first bid comprises bid criteria;

match the bid criteria to the user driving data received from plurality of users and stored in the at least one first memory;

determine one or more users associated with the matching user driving data;

retrieve the content;

for each user of the determined one or more users;

send, to the second computing device associated with that user, the content; and

send, to the second computing device, via the first communication interface, and based on the information identifying the second application that collected the user driving data, instructions for the predetermined application to output the content via the second application.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the first instructions, when executed by the one or more first processors, further cause the first computing device to:

receive the user driving data associated with each of the plurality of users;

calculate, based on an analysis of the user driving data, a driving score associated with each of the plurality of users;

store, in the at least one first memory, the user driving data and the driving score associated with each of the plurality of users;

group the plurality of users into a plurality of different groups based on the driving score associated with each of the plurality of users; and

provide, to the one or more servers, data identifying the plurality of different groups,

wherein receiving the first bid comprises selecting the first bid from one or more bids received, from the one or more servers and via the first communication interface, to provide content to one or more users grouped in a first group of the plurality of different groups, and

wherein determining the one or more users comprises determining one or more users grouped in the first group.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the system further comprises:

a plurality of second computing devices, wherein each second computing device of the plurality of second computing devices is associated with a user of the plurality of users and comprises;

one or more second processors;

a second communication interface; and

at least one second memory storing computer-readable second instructions;

wherein the second instructions, when executed by the one or more second processors, cause the second computing device to;

receive, via the second communication interface and from the first computing device, the content and the instructions for the predetermined application to output the content via the second application that collected the user driving data; and

display the content via the second application.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein each of the one or more bids comprises bid criteria, a bid amount, and content location information, and

wherein the first bid is selected based on at least one of the bid amount, a content output frequency, and a content yield.
