Abstract

Configurations are disclosed for a health system to be used in various healthcare applications, e.g., for patient diagnostics, monitoring, and/or therapy. The health system may comprise a light generation module to transmit light or an image to a user, one or more sensors to detect a physiological parameter of the user'"'"'s body, including their eyes, and processing circuitry to analyze an input received in response to the presented images to determine one or more health conditions or defects.

Claims

1. A wearable augmented reality device comprising:

an augmented reality head-mounted ophthalmic system comprising an augmented reality display platform comprising a waveguide stack configured to pass light from the world into an eye of a wearer wearing the head-mounted ophthalmic system, the eye comprising a retina and a cornea;

a light source configured to project light into the eye of the wearer, at least a portion of the light reflecting off at least a portion of the eye so as to produce a reflection; and

a camera configured to capture an image of the reflection, the device being configured to perform a diagnostic test of the wearer'"'"'s eye to detect abnormalities of the eye,

wherein the waveguide stack comprises a plurality of waveguides configured to output light with wavefront divergence corresponding to different depth planes, wherein the waveguide stack is configured to provide a fixation target for the wearer at the different depth planes and to vary display of the fixation target between a plurality of the different depth planes.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the light source is configured to direct the light into the eye along the normal line of sight of the eye.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein the light source is configured to direct the light into the eye at a first angle at a first time and at a second different angle at a second time.

4. The device of claim 1, wherein the light source is configured to project the light to a first portion of the wearer'"'"'s eye at a first time and to project the light to a second different portion of the wearer'"'"'s eye at a second time.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein the light source comprises a display forming part of the augmented reality display platform.

6. The device of claim 5, wherein the display comprises a fiber scanning display.

7. The device of claim 1, wherein the camera comprises an eye tracking camera.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein the abnormality of the eye comprises glaucoma, a cataract, cancer of the eye, retinoblastoma, a detached retina, aberrations of the eye, or corneal scarring.

9. The device of claim 1, wherein the light source is configured to project light into wearer'"'"'s left and right eye.

10. The device of claim 9, wherein the camera is configured to capture an image of the reflection and to perform a red reflex test of the wearer'"'"'s left and right eye.

11. The device of claim 9, wherein the abnormality of the eye comprises eye misalignment, strabismus, or asymmetry.

12. The device of claim 1, further comprising an adaptable optics element.

13. The device of claim 12, wherein the adaptable optics element is configured to direct the light into the eye at a first angle at a first time and at a second different angle at a second time.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein the adaptable optics element is configured to project the light to a first portion of the wearer'"'"'s eye at a first time and to project the light to a second different portion of the wearer'"'"'s eye at a second time.

15. The device of claim 1, wherein the waveguide stack further comprises one or more lenses.

16. The device of claim 1, wherein the fixation target is located away from a center of the wearer'"'"'s field of view.

17. The device of claim 1, wherein the display platform is configured to provide a first fixation target at a first location at a first time and a second fixation target at a second different location at a second time that causes the eye to move.

18. The device of claim 1, wherein the camera comprises a light pipe.

19. The device of claim 1, wherein the light source comprises a light pipe.

20. The device of claim 1, wherein the light comprises visible light.

21. The device of claim 20, wherein the light comprises white light.

22. The device of claim 21, further comprising at least one mechanical filter configured to limit the spectrum of reflected light detected at the camera.

23. The device of claim 21, wherein the device is configured to digitally filter images captured by the camera to remove light of at least one wavelength range from the images.

24. The device of claim 1, wherein the light comprises infrared light.

25. The device of claim 1, wherein the camera is configured to capture light reflecting from the retina, and wherein the augmented reality head-mounted ophthalmic system is configured to perform a red reflex test based on the light reflecting from the retina.

26. The device of claim 1, wherein the camera is configured to capture light reflecting from the cornea, and wherein the augmented reality head-mounted ophthalmic system is configured to perform a Hirschberg corneal reflex test based on the light reflecting from the cornea.

27. The device of claim 1, wherein the device is further configured to compare the results of the diagnostic test with a database of normal or abnormal results.

28. The device of claim 1, wherein the fixation target is simultaneously displayed to the wearer at both the first and second depth planes.

29. A wearable augmented reality device comprising:

an augmented reality head-mounted ophthalmic system comprising an augmented reality display platform comprising a waveguide stack configured to pass light from the world into an eye of a wearer wearing the head-mounted ophthalmic system, the eye comprising a retina and a cornea;

a light source configured to project light into the eye of the wearer, at least a portion of the light reflecting off at least a portion of the eye so as to produce a reflection; and

a camera configured to capture an image of the reflection, the device being configured to perform a diagnostic test of the wearer'"'"'s eye to detect abnormalities of the eye,

wherein the waveguide stack comprises a plurality of waveguides configured to output light with wavefront divergence corresponding to at least a first and second depth plane and to display virtual content to the wearer at one of the first and second depth planes.

30. The device of claim 29, wherein the virtual content is displayed to the wearer at both the first and second depth plane simultaneously.
