1. A method for communicating with a base station, comprising:

  • determining, by a user equipment (UE), each one of multiple narrowband sounding reference signals (SRSs) based on a bandwidth capability of the UE being narrower than a system bandwidth of a channel;

    transmitting, from the UE, each one of the multiple narrowband SRSs at a different frequency sub-band during one subframe; and

    receiving, by the UE from the base station, a beamformed downlink communication based on information obtained from each one of the multiple narrow band SRSs corresponding to each of the different frequency sub-bands, wherein the beamformed downlink communication based on information obtained from each one of the multiple narrowband SRSs corresponding to each of the different frequency sub-bands comprises a beamformed downlink communication having a bandwidth greater than the width of each of the frequency sub-bands, wherein the different frequency sub-bands cover a portion of an entire bandwidth of the system bandwidth of the channel, wherein a number of different frequency sub-bands is selected based on a threshold for channel reciprocity.
