Hearing augmentation systems and methods
First Claim
1. A hearing system comprising:
- a microphone in a hearing aid configured to generate audio data representing ambient sound;
a speaker in said hearing aid worn by a user configured to direct a pre-recorded audio sample having a mixture of frequencies comprising having frequencies in a human hearing frequency range, during a first testing cycle, and said audio data representing ambient sound, detected by said microphone, during a second testing cycle, into at least one ear of a user;
a memory comprising a machine readable medium having machine executable instructions stored on said machine readable medium;
a control system coupled to said memory, wherein said control system is configured to use said machine executable instructions to cause said hearing system to perform the functions of;
playing said pre-recorded audio sample through the speaker;
receiving user input in response to said pre-recorded audio sample;
modifying sound settings based upon said user input in response to said pre-recorded audio sample to produce modified sound settings;
playing said audio data representing ambient sound through said speaker using said modified sound settings;
receiving additional user input in response to said audio data representing ambient sound;
modifying said modified sound settings based upon said additional user input in response to said audio data representing ambient sound.

Abstract
Various systems and methods are disclosed herein to increase the quality of the sound delivered to a user and allow personalization to optimize listening performance and comfort under atypical listening conditions, environment specific adjustment, and data capture to assist in the personalization of the system to the user'"'"'s needs and preferences. Features disclosed include sound level rating systems that aggregate noise data detected by user'"'"'s mobile phones or hearing devices to provide a database of real-time noise levels. Additionally, a user'"'"'s sound settings may be saved in the system by location so that they may be recalled when re-entering a specific location. A remote clinician may tune a hearing device, or a user can tune the device using a pre-recorded audio sample. Also, a user may replay the last X seconds of audio recorded by their hearing device.

9. A method for tuning a hearing system comprising:
-
playing pre-recorded audio data comprising sounds having a frequency in a human speaking frequency range and environmental noises having frequencies in a human hearing frequency range through a speaker of a hearing device into at least one ear of a user; receiving a first set of user feedback data in response to said playing said pre-recorded audio data; modifying sound settings in said hearing system based on said first set of user feedback data to create modified sound settings; playing an audio sample through said speaker in at least one ear of said user, said audio sample comprising ambient sound detected by a microphone on said hearing device that has been filtered by said modified sound settings; receiving a second set of user feedback data in response to playing said audio sample;
modifying said modified sound settings based on said second set of user feedback data to create suggested sound settings;playing ambient sound, from a microphone through said speaker in at least one ear of said user, that has been filtered by said suggested sound settings; prompting said user to select either said suggested sound settings or the previously saved sound settings; receiving a selection from said user; and configuring audio settings of said hearing device based on said selection by said user. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11)

12. A hearing system comprising:
-
a microphone configured to generate audio data representing ambient sound; a speaker in a hearing aid worn by a user that is configured to direct sound into at least one ear of said user; a memory comprising a machine readable medium having machine executable instructions stored on said machine readable medium; a control system coupled to said memory, wherein said control system uses said machine executable instructions to cause said hearing device to perform the functions of; analyzing a pre-recorded audio data sample which is a mixture of frequencies comprising sounds having a frequency in a human speaking frequency range and environmental noise having a frequency in a human hearing range; modifying sound settings of said hearing system based upon an analysis of said pre-recorded audio data sample to create modified sound settings; playing an audio sample of ambient sound on said speaker that has been modified using said modified sound settings in response to receiving instructions to initiate a user based tuning process; receiving user input control data in response to said playing of said audio sample of said ambient sound; modifying said modified sound settings based on said user input. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19)
