1. A theater area comprising:
- an audience area;
a performance stage platform movable relative to the audience area such that (i) a first portion of the performance stage platform is directly visible from a seat of the audience seating area at a first point in time and (ii) a second, different portion of the performance stage platform is directly visible from the seat at a second point in time; and
a sensor positioned to facilitate determining a proximity of a performer to an edge of the performance stage platform;
wherein movement of the performance stage platform is at least one of slowed or stopped completely in response to the performer being within a threshold distance of the edge of the performance stage platform; and
wherein the movement of the performance stage platform is slowed proportionally to the proximity of the performer to the edge once the performer is within the threshold distance and completely stopped once the performer reaches the edge.

Abstract
A theater area includes audience seating that faces outwardly in an “inverted-theater-in-the-round” arrangement towards a ring-shaped performance stage. The performance stage is designed to rotate around the audience area so that each section of the audience can see each part of the stage at different times.

12. A theater comprising:
-
a platform configured to be moveable relative to an audience seating area; and a sensor positioned to facilitate determining a proximity of a person to an edge of the platform; wherein movement of the platform is at least one of slowed or stopped completely in response to a person being within a threshold distance of an edge of the platform; and wherein the movement of the platform is slowed proportionally to the proximity of the person to the edge once the person is within the threshold distance and completely stopped once the person reaches the edge; wherein a first portion of the performance stage is visible from a first section of the audience seating area but is not visible from a second section of the audience seating area at a first point in time; wherein a second portion of the performance stage is not visible from the first section but is visible from the second section at the first point in time; wherein the first portion is not visible from the first section but is visible from the second section at a second point in time; and wherein the second portion is visible from the first section but is not visible from the second section at the second point in time. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15)

16. A method for using a performance stage, the method comprising:
-
positioning a first performance stage area of the performance stage adjacent to a first section of an audience area; positioning a second performance stage area of the performance stage that is different from the first performance stage area adjacent to a second section of the audience area; and moving the performance stage relative to the audience area; wherein movement of the performance stage is at least one of slowed or stopped completely in response to a performer being within a threshold distance of an edge of the performance stage; wherein the movement of the performance stage platform is slowed proportionally to the proximity of the performer to the edge once the performer is within the threshold distance and completely stopped once the performer reaches the edge; wherein the first performance stage area is moved from being adjacent to the first section of the audience area to being adjacent to the second section of the audience area such that the first performance stage area is not visible from the first section of the audience area; and wherein the second performance stage area is moved from being adjacent to the second section of the audience area to being adjacent to the first section of the audience area such that the second performance stage area is not visible from the second section of the audience area. - View Dependent Claims (17)
