1. A system for predicting or reporting when a patient stands up, comprising:

  • a sock for a foot of the patient, the sock having one or more pressure sensors with conductive threads woven into the sock that change resistance according to pressure applied by the patient'"'"'s foot;

    a monitoring device coupled to the sock, the monitoring device having;

    one or more sensors configured to detect movement of the patient;

    wherein the monitoring device begins processing data received from the one or more sensors when movement measured by at least one sensor of the one or more sensors exceeds a predetermined activation threshold;

    wherein the monitoring device is configured to calculate a triggering value by combining the detected movement of the patient and changes in pressure detected by the pressure sensors;

    wherein the monitoring device sends an alert message to a caregiver using an alert computer when the triggering value exceeds a predetermined alert threshold;

    wherein the alert computer is coupled to a computer network, the alert computer configured to receive the alert message sent from the monitoring device and communicate the alert message to the caregiver; and

    wherein the monitoring device stops processing data received from the one or more sensors when the movement measured by the at least one sensor of the one or more sensors has remained less than or equal to the predetermined activation threshold for greater than a predetermined activation timeout.
