an implantable layer configured to be captured by said staples, wherein said implantable layer comprises a tissue contacting surface, wherein said tissue contacting surface comprises a plurality of cleats configured to reduce tissue slippage relative to said implantable layer, wherein said cleats comprise small contact areas, wherein said small contact areas are configured to improve traction against said tissue by contacting without puncturing said tissue.

In addition, the layer includes a tissue contacting surface which includes a plurality of cleats, and/or any other suitable structures, configured to reduce slippage between the layer and the patient tissue. In various embodiments, the layer can include traction features extending therefrom.
