1. A method, comprising:
- determining, by a system comprising a processor, a measurement of quality of service for transmitting voice traffic for a first resource block in a plurality of resource blocks occurring in a radio frequency spectrum of a wireless communication system used by mobile communication devices, based upon detected signal interference in the first resource block;
determining, by the system, that the first resource block is not suitable for voice traffic during the signal interference of the first resource block, wherein the determining is made from a comparison of the measurement of quality of service to a desired measure of quality of service for voice traffic; and
responsive to a first determination, by the system, that non-voice traffic of mobile communication devices is available for assignment to the first resource block when the first resource block is not suitable for voice traffic during an occurrence of the signal interference of the first resource block, assigning, by the system, the non-voice traffic to the first resource block.

Abstract
A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may perform, for example, a method for detecting signal interference in a first segment of a plurality of segments of a radio frequency spectrum of a wireless communication system, determining according to the signal interference a measure of quality of service of the first segment for transmitting voice traffic, comparing the measure of quality of service to a desired measure of quality of service measure for voice traffic, determining from the comparison that the first segment is not suitable for voice traffic, and notifying a system that the first segment is not suitable for voice traffic. Other embodiments are disclosed.

12. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium, comprising instructions, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

determining that a first resource block of a plurality of resource blocks occurring in a radio frequency spectrum of a wireless communication system used by mobile communication devices is not suitable for voice traffic during signal interference in the first resource block from a comparison of a measurement of quality of service for voice traffic according to detected signal interference in the first resource block with a desired measure of quality of service for voice traffic; and responsive to a first determination that non-voice traffic of mobile communication devices is available for assignment to the first resource block, assigning the non-voice traffic to the first resource block when the first resource block is not suitable for voice traffic during an occurrence of the signal interference in the first resource block. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16)

17. A mobile communication device, comprising:

a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising; receiving an allotment of spectral segments in a radio frequency spectrum of a wireless communication system; sending a first indication that a first spectral segment in the allotment of spectral segments is not suitable for voice traffic determined by comparing a measure of quality of service of the first spectral segment for transporting voice traffic based on detected signal interference to a desired measure of quality of service measure for voice traffic; and responsive to first received instructions, redirecting non-voice traffic over the first spectral segment while the first spectral segment is affected by the signal interference. - View Dependent Claims (18, 19, 20)
