1. A surgical instrument, comprising:

  • a transducer configured to generate an acoustic standing wave of vibratory motion along a longitudinal axis, wherein the transducer comprises a piezoelectric stack positioned along the longitudinal axis, wherein the transducer is configured to resonate at a predetermined vibrational frequency, wherein a wavelength of the acoustic standing wave corresponds to the predetermined vibrational frequency, and wherein a length of the transducer is less than ½

    of the wavelength of the acoustic standing wave; and

    an end effector acoustically coupled to and extending distally from the transducer along the longitudinal axis;

    wherein a sum of the length of the transducer and a length of the end effector is an integer multiple of ½

    of the wavelength of the acoustic standing wave.
