Abstract

An agricultural system includes a tow bar, a first row-cleaning device, and a second row-cleaning device. The first row-cleaning device is attached to the tow bar via a first frame and includes a first roller device in a trailing position relative to a first furrow-opener disk and configured to crush standing residual plant matter along a first path on a field. The second row-cleaning device is attached to the tow bar via a second frame and includes a second roller device in a trailing position relative to a second furrow-opener disk and configured to crush standing residual plant matter along a second path on the field. The second roller device is offset longitudinally from the first roller device.

Claims

1. An agricultural system comprising:

a frame configured for attachment to a leading tow bar of a towing vehicle;

a row-cleaning device attached to the frame and having a pair of opener disks for forming a furrow into the field;

a roller device attached to the frame and extending between two adjacent parallel strip positions, the roller device being configured to crush standing residual plant matter in the field;

a fertilizer opener disk attached to the frame in a trailing position relative to the row-cleaning device and configured to prepare, at least in part, the furrow for receiving a fertilizer; and

a fertilizer injector attached to the frame and being configured to deposit the fertilizer into the furrow in a trailing position relative to the fertilizer opener disk.

2. The agricultural system of claim 1, wherein the roller device is generally aligned with the fertilizer opener disk.

3. The agricultural system of claim 1, wherein the roller device is concentric with the fertilizer opener disk.

4. The agricultural system of claim 1, wherein the roller device is in a leading position relative to the fertilizer opener disk.

5. The agricultural system of claim 1, wherein the frame is a rigid frame.

6. The agricultural system of claim 1, further comprising a leading coulter attached to the frame such that a trailing edge of the leading coulter is adjacent to a leading edge each of the pair of opener disks.

7. The agricultural system of claim 1, further comprising a pivotable row-cleaning linkage via which the pair of opener disks is attached to the frame.

8. The agricultural system of claim 7, wherein the pivotable row-cleaning linkage is a parallel linkage.

9. The agricultural system of claim 1, further comprising a row-cleaning actuator attached between the pivotable row-cleaning linkage and the pair of opener disks, the row-cleaning actuator being configured to apply a supplemental force for up-down movement.

10. The agricultural system of claim 9, wherein the row-cleaning actuator is a hydraulic actuator or a pneumatic actuator.

11. The agricultural system of claim 1, wherein the roller device includes a plurality of protrusions that extend outwardly from a peripheral surface of the roller device.

12. The agricultural system of claim 11, wherein the plurality of protrusions form a unitary construction with the roller device, being formed from a single piece of material with the roller device.

13. The agricultural system of claim 1, wherein the roller device is in a trailing position relative to the pair of opener disks.

14. The agricultural system of claim 1, wherein the roller device is in a leading position relative to the pair of opener disks.

15. An agricultural system comprising:

a tow bar for attachment to a towing vehicle in a trailing position relative to a direction of movement along a field;

a plurality of row-cleaning devices attached to the tow bar via respective rigid frames, each of the plurality of row-cleaning devices having

a leading coulter, and

a pair of opener disks for forming a furrow into the field, each of the pair of opener disks having a leading edge that is adjacent to a trailing edge of the leading coulter;

a plurality of roller devices attached, respectively, to the rigid frames in trailing positions relative to the plurality of row-cleaning devices, the plurality of roller devices being independently movable up-and-down relative to each other when obstacles are encountered on the field, each of the plurality of roller devices being configured to crush standing residual plant matter in the field;

a plurality of fertilizer opener disks attached, respectively, to the rigid frames in a trailing position relative to the plurality of row-cleaning devices and configured to prepare, at least in part, the furrow for receiving a fertilizer; and

a plurality of fertilizer injectors attached, respectively, to the rigid frames and being configured to deposit the fertilizer into the furrow in a trailing position relative to a respective one of the fertilizer opener disks, the fertilizer being deposited in the same pass on the field during which the furrow is formed and the standing residual plant matter is crushed.

16. The agricultural system of claim 15, wherein the plurality of roller devices are generally aligned with respective ones of the plurality of fertilizer opener disks.

17. The agricultural system of claim 15, wherein the plurality of roller devices are concentric with respective ones of the plurality of fertilizer opener disks.

18. The agricultural system of claim 15, wherein the plurality of roller devices are in leading positions relative to respective ones of the plurality of fertilizer opener disks.

19. The agricultural system of claim 15, further comprising a plurality of pivotable row-cleaning linkages via which the pair of opener disks is attached to a respective one of the rigid frames.

20. The agricultural system of claim 15, further comprising at least one row-cleaning actuator configured to apply a supplemental force for up-down movement to one or more of the plurality of row-cleaning devices.
