A method for treating idiopathic vomiting in a companion animal, comprising the step of orally administering to said companion animal one or more plant materials or extracts thereof in an effective amount for inhibiting a 5-hydroxytryptamine-3a serotonin (5-HT3a) receptor and/or a neurokinin-1 (NK-1) receptor, wherein the one or more plant materials or extracts thereof consists of Curcuma longa (turmeric) and licorice, ginger, rhubarb, or a combination thereof.
