1. An apparatus for detecting an object in a detection area of a wireless power transfer system having a base pad with first and second sides and configured to provide an amount of power to wirelessly charge a chargeable energy storage device, the apparatus comprising:

  • a plurality of radar transceivers, each of the plurality of radar transceivers comprising a transmit antenna and a receive antenna; and

    a processor configured to;

    group the plurality of radar transceivers into pairs of radar transceivers,instruct each of the pairs of radar transceivers to transmit radar signals during a corresponding time slot of a plurality of time slots, wherein for each pair of radar transceivers, a first radar transceiver is integrated with the first side of the base pad and a second radar transceiver is integrated with the second side of the base pad and wherein the first side is opposite the second side on the base pad,instruct each of the pairs of radar transceivers to receive the radar signals during the corresponding time slot of the plurality of time slots,detect the object in the detection area based on at least some of the radar signals received by the pairs of radar transceivers,reduce the amount of power provided by the wireless power transfer system in response to detecting the object in the detection area; and

    disable a receiving capability of each of the pairs of radar transceivers outside of the corresponding time slot.
