Abstract

A cognitive learning method comprising receiving data from a plurality of data sources; processing the data from the plurality of data sources to perform a cognitive machine learning operation, the processing being performed via a cognitive inference and learning system, the cognitive learning operation implementing a cognitive learning technique according to a cognitive learning framework, the cognitive machine learning operation applying the cognitive learning technique via a machine learning algorithm to generate a cognitive learning result; and, updating a destination based upon the learning result.

Claims

1. A cognitive learning method comprising:

receiving data from a plurality of data sources;

processing the data from the plurality of data sources to perform a cognitive machine learning operation, the processing being performed via a cognitive inference and learning system, the cognitive machine learning operation implementing a cognitive learning technique according to a cognitive learning framework, the cognitive learning framework comprising a plurality of cognitive learning styles and a plurality of cognitive learning categories, each of the plurality of cognitive learning styles comprising a generalized learning approach implemented by the cognitive inference and learning system to perform the cognitive learning operation, each of the plurality of cognitive learning categories referring to a source of information used by the cognitive inference and learning system when performing the cognitive learning operation, an individual cognitive learning technique being associated with a primary cognitive learning style and bounded by an associated primary cognitive learning category, the cognitive inference and learning system comprising a cognitive platform, the cognitive machine learning operation applying the cognitive learning technique via a machine learning algorithm to generate a cognitive learning result, the cognitive platform comprising;

a cognitive engine, the cognitive engine comprising a dataset engine, a graph query engine and an insight/learning engine,

a plurality of sourcing agents, the plurality of sourcing agents sourcing the data from the plurality of data sources, and,

a plurality of destination agents, the plurality of destination agents publishing the cognitive learning result to a consumer of cognitive insight data;

updating a knowledge model using the cognitive learning result, the updating being performed via the cognitive platform of the cognitive inference and learning system; and

,

updating a destination based upon the learning result, the destination comprising a cognitive application, the cognitive application enabling a user to interact with the cognitive learning result.

2. The cognitive learning method of claim 1, wherein:

the cognitive machine learning operation comprises a reinforcement learning operation, the reinforcement learning operation applying a machine learning approach based upon behaviorist psychology, the reinforcement learning operation using agents to take actions within an environment to maximize a cumulative reward.

3. The cognitive learning method of claim 1, wherein:

the cognitive learning framework comprises a plurality of cognitive learning styles and a plurality of cognitive learning categories, each of the plurality of cognitive learning styles comprising a generalized learning approach implemented by the cognitive inference and learning system to perform the cognitive machine learning operation, each of the plurality of cognitive learning categories comprising a source of information used by the cognitive inference and learning system to perform the cognitive machine learning operation; and

,

the cognitive machine learning operation performs a process step on the cognitive machine learning operation via the cognitive learning framework.

4. The cognitive learning method of claim 3, wherein:

the cognitive learning technique comprises use of at least one of the plurality of cognitive learning styles in combination with at last one of the plurality of cognitive learning categories; and

,

the cognitive machine learning operation is applied to the use of at least one of the plurality of cognitive learning styles in combination with at least one of the plurality of cognitive learning categories.

5. The cognitive learning method of claim 4, wherein:

the cognitive learning technique comprises at least one of a direct correlation cognitive learning technique, and an explicit likes/dislikes cognitive learning technique; and

,

the cognitive machine learning operation comprises a supervised learning operation, the supervised learning operation being implemented with at least one of the direct correlation cognitive learning technique and the explicit likes/dislikes cognitive learning technique.

6. The cognitive learning method of claim 4, wherein:

the cognitive learning technique comprises at least one of a patterns and concepts cognitive learning technique and a behavior cognitive learning technique; and

,

the cognitive machine learning operation comprises an unsupervised learning operation, the unsupervised learning operation being implemented with at least one of the patterns and concepts cognitive learning technique and the behavior cognitive learning technique.

7. The cognitive learning method of claim 4, wherein:

the cognitive learning technique comprises at least one of a concept entailment cognitive learning technique and a contextual recommendation cognitive learning technique; and

,

the cognitive machine learning operation comprises a probabilistic reasoning operation, the probabilistic reasoning operation being implemented with at least one of the concept entailment cognitive learning technique and the contextual recommendation cognitive learning technique.

8. A cognitive learning method comprising:

receiving data from the plurality of data sources to the cognitive interface and learning system, the plurality of data sources comprising a social data source stored in a social data repository, a public data source stored in a public data repository, a licensed data source stored in a licensed data repository and a private data source stored in a private data repository;

processing data from a plurality of data sources to perform a cognitive machine learning operation, the processing being performed via a cognitive inference and learning system, the cognitive inference and learning system comprising a cognitive platform, the cognitive platform comprising;

a cognitive engine, the cognitive engine comprising a dataset engine, a graph query engine and an insight/learning engine,

a plurality of sourcing agents, the plurality of sourcing agents sourcing multi-site, multi-structured data streams, and,

a plurality of destination agents, the plurality of destination agents publishing a cognitive learning result to a consumer of cognitive insight data;

the cognitive machine learning operation implementing a cognitive learning technique according to a cognitive learning framework, the cognitive learning framework comprising a plurality of cognitive learning styles and a plurality of cognitive learning categories, each of the plurality of cognitive learning styles comprising a generalized learning approach implemented by the cognitive inference and learning system to perform the cognitive learning operation, each of the plurality of cognitive learning categories referring to a source of information used by the cognitive inference and learning system when performing the cognitive learning operation, an individual cognitive learning technique being associated with a primary cognitive learning style and bounded by an associated primary cognitive learning category, the cognitive machine learning operation applying the cognitive learning technique via a machine learning algorithm to generate a cognitive learning result;

updating a knowledge model using the cognitive learning result, the updating being performed via the cognitive platform of the cognitive inference and learning system; and

,

updating a destination based upon the cognitive learning result, the destination comprising a cognitive application, the cognitive application enabling a user to interact with the cognitive learning result.

9. The cognitive learning method of claim 8, wherein:

the cognitive machine learning operation comprises a reinforcement learning operation, the reinforcement learning operation applying a machine learning approach based upon behaviorist psychology, the reinforcement learning operation using agents to take actions within an environment to maximize a cumulative reward.

10. The cognitive learning method of claim 8, wherein:

the cognitive learning framework comprises a plurality of cognitive learning styles and a plurality of cognitive learning categories, each of the plurality of cognitive learning styles comprising a generalized learning approach implemented by the cognitive inference and learning system to perform the cognitive machine learning operation, each of the plurality of cognitive learning categories comprising a source of information used by the cognitive inference and learning system to perform the cognitive machine learning operation; and

,

the cognitive machine learning operation performs a process step on the cognitive machine learning operation via the cognitive learning framework.

11. The cognitive learning method of claim 10, wherein:

the cognitive learning technique comprises use of at least one of the plurality of cognitive learning styles in combination with at last one of the plurality of cognitive learning categories; and

,

the cognitive machine learning operation is applied to the use of at least one of the plurality of cognitive learning styles in combination with at least one of the plurality of cognitive learning categories.

12. The cognitive learning method of claim 11, wherein:

the cognitive learning technique comprises at least one of a direct correlation cognitive learning technique, and an explicit likes/dislikes cognitive learning technique; and

,

the cognitive machine learning operation comprises a supervised learning operation, the supervised learning operation being implemented with at least one of the direct correlation cognitive learning technique and the explicit likes/dislikes cognitive learning technique.

13. The cognitive learning method of claim 11, wherein:

the cognitive learning technique comprises at least one of a patterns and concepts cognitive learning technique and a behavior cognitive learning technique; and

,

the cognitive machine learning operation comprises an unsupervised learning operation, the unsupervised learning operation being implemented with at least one of the patterns and concepts cognitive learning technique and the behavior cognitive learning technique.

14. The cognitive learning method of claim 11, wherein:

the cognitive learning technique comprises at least one of a concept entailment cognitive learning technique and a contextual recommendation cognitive learning technique; and

,

the cognitive machine learning operation comprises a probabilistic reasoning operation, the probabilistic reasoning operation being implemented with at least one of the concept entailment cognitive learning technique and the contextual recommendation cognitive learning technique.
