- a plurality of data sets comprised of data representing business activities arranged as a columnar array wherein each column is associated with a distinct source rule that applies to the column when it is used as a data source;
a plurality of factory rules that govern which operations on available data sources are executed based on one or more conditions in the measure factory, the executing of operations taking into account the source rules that are applicable to the data sources and at least one other of the plurality of factory rules;
a factory rule execution hierarchy that indicates an order of factory rule execution, the order comprising executing factory rules that lack dependency on other factory rules before executing factory rules that have dependency on other factory rules, and executing ready calc rules, ready flag rules, and ready lookup rules before executing ready link rules which execute before ready plugin rules; and
a factory rules processing facility that applies a portion of the plurality of factory rules to at least a portion of the plurality of data sets.

The measure factory includes factory rules that govern which operations on available data sources may be executed under what conditions in the measure factory, such as by taking into account the source rules and other applicable factory rules. A factory rule execution hierarchy governs the execution of ready factory rules that lack dependency on other factory rules before executing ready factory rules that have dependency on other factory rules. A script generation facility generates a script to process the plurality of factory rules according to the factory rule execution hierarchy.
