1. A method of controlling a wireless home alarm system wherein the wireless home alarm system comprises a plurality of wireless peripheral alarm detectors, said peripheral wireless alarm detectors comprising at least a first infrared detector and at least a first perimeter alarm detector, and a first gateway having wireless communication means for communicating wirelessly with and for controlling associated wireless peripheral alarm detectors, the method implemented with at least one processor coupled to memory-stored instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the processor to perform the method, comprising the steps:

  • a) installing at least one second gateway in said home wireless system, the second gateway having wireless communication means for communicating wirelessly with and for controlling wireless peripheral alarm detectors,b) at least one of said first gateway and said at least one second gateway repeatedly connecting to a central monitoring station comprising data storing means storing installation data, and wherein said central monitoring station updates at least one of said first gateway and said at least one second gateway when installation data are changed;

    c) performing an initial link establishment process to bind each of the wireless peripheral alarm detector with either the first gateway or the at least one second gateway, the initial link establishment process comprising the steps of;

    i) broadcasting an identification message from each peripheral wireless node searching for a controlling gateway;

    ii) receiving in each of said first gateway and said at least one second gateway said identification signal;

    iii) applying in each of said first gateway and said at least one second gateway receiving said identification message a metric and calculating on the basis of said metric a delay in each of said first gateway and said at least one second gateway;

    iv) sending after said delay from each of said first gateway and said at least one second gateway a login request message;

    v) completing said initial link establishment process by responding in said peripheral wireless alarm detector to the login request message received from the gateway responding after the shortest delay with a login response signal, said peripheral wireless alarm detector then being bound to that gateway responding with the login request message and communicating only with that gateway until a subsequent link establishment process is initiated in step c);

    d) each peripheral wireless alarm detector repeatedly sending messages to its assigned gateway;

    e) each assigned gateway sending an acknowledge message as a response to messages from its peripheral wireless alarm detector;

    f) initiating a subsequent link establishment process after the initial link establishment process of step b) to bind a wireless peripheral alarm detector not receiving an acknowledge message in step d) from its assigned gateway to another gateway,the subsequent link establishment process comprising the steps of;

    i) broadcasting an identification message from the peripheral wireless alarm detector not receiving an acknowledge message from its assigned gateway;

    ii) receiving in a gateway not initially assigned to the peripheral alarm detector said identification signal broadcast in step f)i);

    iii) sending from a gateway not initially assigned to the wireless peripheral alarm detector a login request message including a temporary session encryption key;

    iv) completing said subsequent link establishment process by sending a login response message by said peripheral wireless alarm detector to the login request message received from the gateway in step f)iii)v) using the temporary session encryption key received, said peripheral wireless alarm detector then being bound to that gateway and communicating only with that gateway until a subsequent link establishment process is initiated in step f.
