1. A method of sharing transportation employing a ground transportation network, the method comprising:

  • receiving, by the ground transportation network, a first ride request from a first transport user device, wherein the first transport user device is associated with a first transport user, and wherein the first ride request includes a first pick-up location and a first drop-off location;

    identifying, by the ground transportation network, a first transport provider in close proximity to the first pick-up location received in the first ride request, wherein the first transport provider comprises a first transport provider device in communication with the ground transportation network;

    sending, by the ground transportation network, a first transport request to the first transport provider device;

    detecting, by the ground transportation network, whether the first transport provider accepts the first transport request;

    sending, by the ground transportation network, transport instructions to the first transport provider device if the first transport provider accepts the first transport request, wherein the transport instructions include information identifying the first transport user, the first pick-up location, and the first drop-off location;

    receiving indication, by the ground transportation network, that the first transport provider has picked up the first transport user for a first journey from the first pick-up location to the first drop-off location, wherein the received indication that the first transport user has been picked up is based on determining a coordinated proximity between, or first locations of, the first transport user device and the first transport provider device;

    detecting, by the ground transportation network, whether a second ride request from a second transport user device is received; and

    receiving indication, by the ground transportation network, that the first transport provider has ended the first journey after dropping off the first transport user at the first drop-off location, wherein the received indication that the first transport provider has ended the first journey is based on a break of the coordinated proximity between, or second locations of, the first transport user device and the first transport provider device.
