A method of treating chronic cough in a subject having idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising cromolyn, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, with an inhalation device, wherein prior to administration of the pharmaceutical composition the subject has been diagnosed as having chronic cough due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis or chronic idiopathic cough and wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered to the subject only if the subject has been diagnosed as having chronic cough due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
