1. A scleral prosthesis comprising:

  • an elongated body having a first free end, a second free end opposite the first free end, a central portion extending between and coupling the first free end and the second free end, and a convex top surface extending lengthwise along at least part of the central portion between the first free end and the second free end, a maximum width of the body at each end wider than a maximum width of the body along the central portion; and

    an insert having a convex top surface extending lengthwise along at least part of the insert;

    wherein the body comprises multiple portions that form the first free end of the body and part of the central portion of the body, the multiple portions separated lengthwise along part of a total length of the body by empty space, the empty space transitioning from a first larger width to a smaller width and then expanding to a second larger width;

    wherein the insert has a shape complementary to the empty space such that the insert tapers from a first larger width to a smaller width and then expands to a second larger width;

    wherein the multiple portions of the body are biased so that they maintain separation from one another without external interference but are configured to be pushed towards each other;

    wherein the insert is configured to be inserted lengthwise into the empty space and to maintain the separation of the multiple portions of the body after insertion into the empty space;

    wherein the first end projects beyond one or more sides of the central portion of the body and angles back towards the second end;

    wherein the second end projects beyond the one or more sides of the central portion of the body and angles back towards the first end; and

    wherein the second end of the body is integral with the central portion of the body and is not divided into multiple separated portions.
