Diagnostic system for a vehicle electrical system
First Claim
1. A diagnostic system for a vehicle electrical system wherein the vehicle electrical system has a battery module, a contactor, a high side driver circuit, a low side driver circuit, and a voltage regulator, the voltage regulator outputting a first voltage, the diagnostic system comprising:
- a voltage clamping circuit outputting a second voltage in response to the first voltage;
a first analog multiplexer having an input port receiving the second voltage from the voltage clamping circuit;
a second analog multiplexer having an input port receiving the first voltage from the voltage regulator;
an analog-to-digital converter being electrically coupled to an output port of the first analog multiplexer and an output port of the second analog multiplexer, the analog-to-digital converter being further electrically coupled to a microcontroller, the analog-to-digital converter receiving the first and second voltages at first and second times respectively, and outputting first and second voltage values respectively, based on the first and second voltages respectively, that are received by a microcontroller;
the microcontroller having a first diagnostic application and a second diagnostic application;
the first diagnostic application receiving the first voltage value from the analog-to-digital converter, and the second voltage value from the second diagnostic application;
the first diagnostic application determining a first difference value based on the first and second voltage values; and
the first diagnostic application commanding the high side driver circuit and the low side driver circuit to transition a contact of the contactor to an open operational position when the first difference value is greater than a first threshold difference value indicating that at least one of the first and second analog multiplexers is malfunctioning.

Abstract
A diagnostic system for a vehicle electrical system having a first and second diagnostic application is provided. The first diagnostic application commands a high side driver circuit and a low side driver circuit to transition a contactor to an open operational position when a first difference value is greater than a first threshold difference value indicating that at least one of the first and second analog multiplexers is malfunctioning. The second diagnostic application commanding the high side driver circuit and the low side driver circuit to transition the contactor to the open operational position when a second difference value is greater than the first threshold difference value indicating that at least one of the first and second analog multiplexers is malfunctioning.
