Manipulation of media content to overcome user impairments
First Claim
1. A method comprising:
- detecting, by a processing system including a processor, an indication of a first observer, second observer, and a third observer, present at a display device;
determining, by the processing system, a sensory impairment for the first observer, a first environment condition for the second observer, a second environment condition for the third observer, wherein the sensory impairment and each of the first environment condition and the second environment condition causes impaired perception of an original media content item during presentation of the original media content item at the display device, wherein the first environment condition comprises ambient light and the second environment condition comprises a distance from the display device;
determining, by the processing system, a first media content modification based on the sensory impairment, determining a second media content modification based on the first environment condition, and determining a third media content modification based on the second environment condition;
applying, by the processing system, the first media content modification to the original media content item to obtain a first modified media content item for viewing by the first observer, applying, by the processing system, the second media content modification to the original media content item to obtain a second modified media content item for viewing by the second observer, and applying, by the processing system, the third media content modification to the original media content item to obtain a third modified media content item for viewing by the third observer; and
presenting, by the processing system, within a common display area of the display device a presentation of the first modified media content item, second modified media content item, and the third modified media content item simultaneously, wherein the presentation of the first modified media content item, the second modified media content item, and the third modified media content item, span in part the common display area, resulting in the common display area comprising an overlapping presentation of the first modified media content item, the second modified media content item, and the third modified media content item, wherein the presentation of the first modified media content item is observable by the first observer located at a first angular region with respect to the display device, wherein the presentation of the second modified media content item is observable by the second observer located at a second angular region with respect to the display device, wherein the presentation of the third modified media content item is observable by the third observer located at a third angular region with respect to the display device.

Abstract
A system, process and software that incorporate the subject disclosure may include, for example, identifying a condition that causes an impaired perception of an original media content item during a presentation. A media content modification is determined, wherein application of the media content modification to the original media content item results in a modified media content item. The modified media content item, when presented to the media presentation device, ameliorates the impaired perception of the media content item. The media content modification is applied to the original media content item resulting in the modified media content item. The modified media content item is presented at the media presentation device contemporaneously with the original media content item, allowing different viewers to observe the modified media content item simultaneously with the original. Other embodiments are disclosed.
