1. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
- detecting a buffer status report for a bi-directional transmission, which consists of an uplink (UL) transmission and a sidelink (SL) transmission, wherein the SL transmission is UE to UE direct communication;
transmitting a scheduling request (SR) for the bi-directional transmission to a network via a specific random access preamble identifier (ID) dedicated to the SR for the bi-directional transmission;
transmitting the buffer status report for the bi-directional transmission including an amount of data available for the bi-directional transmission to the network via a newly defined buffer status report (BSR) media access control (MAC) control element (CE) specific to the bi-directional transmission;
when the UE receives a UL grant from the network, performing the UL transmission for the data available for the bi-directional transmission; and
wherein the network determines to transmit one of the UL grant or the SL grant based on the amount of data available for the bi-directional transmission in response to the newly defined BSR MAC CE specific to the bi-directional transmission.

Abstract
A method and apparatus for transmitting a buffer status report for a bi-directional transmission in a wireless communication system is provided. A user equipment (UE) triggers a buffer status report for the bi-directional transmission, and transmits the buffer status report for the bi-directional transmission or a scheduling request for the bi-directional transmission to a network. The bi-direction transmission may correspond to vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication.

7. A user equipment (UE) comprising:
-
a memory; a transceiver; and a processor coupled to the memory and the transceiver, and configured to; detect a buffer status report for a bi-directional transmission, which consists of an uplink (UL) transmission and a sidelink (SL) transmission, wherein the SL transmission is UE to UE direct communication, control the transceiver to transmit a scheduling request (SR) for the bi-directional transmission to a network via a specific random access preamble identifier (ID) dedicated to the SR for the bi-directional transmission, control the transceiver to transmit the buffer status report for the bi-directional transmission including an amount of data available for the bi-directional transmission to the network via a newly defined buffer status report (BSR) media access control (MAC) control element (CE) specific to the bi-directional transmission; when the UE receives a UL grant from the network, perform the UL transmission for the data available for the bi-directional transmission; and when the UE receives a SL grant from the network, perform the SL transmission for the data available for the bi-directional transmission, wherein the network determines to transmit one of the UL grant or the SL grant based on the amount of data available for the bi-directional transmission in response to the newly defined BSR MAC CE specific to the bi-directional transmission.
