1. A method for improving a health status of a user, the method comprising:
- providing a sensor that monitors the user'"'"'s respiration;
continuously receiving a signal from the sensor indicative of biorhythmic activity of the user, the signal havinga first characteristic indicative of a voluntary action of the user, anda second characteristic indicative of a benefit-related variable of the user, the second characteristic including a variability of an aspect of the biorhythmic activity selected from a group consisting of an envelope of the biorhythmic activity, an amplitude of the biorhythmic activity, and a period of the biorhythmic activity,wherein the first and second characteristics are monitored continuously; and
responsive to the continuously monitored second characteristic, continuously generating an output signal which guides the user to modify a parameter of the voluntary action indicated by the first characteristic, the output signal being responsive to the variability of the aspect of the biorhythmic activity, and the parameter of the voluntary action includes synchronization of the first characteristic with the output signal,wherein the first characteristic is determined from a specific time-point analysis of the signal throughout one or more biorhythmic cycles of the user,wherein the first characteristic is selected from the list consisting of;
a period of an aspect of the sensor signal, a rate of an aspect of the sensor signal, a rise time of an aspect of the sensor signal, a fall time of an aspect of the sensor signal, a time derivative at a point of an aspect of the sensor signal, a maximum of the time derivative, a minimum of the time derivative, an amplitude of a maximum of an aspect of the sensor signal averaged over two or more biorhythmic cycles of the aspect and an amplitude of a minimum of an aspect of the sensor signal averaged over a last two or more cycles of the aspect and any combination thereof, andwherein the output signal is generated by applying a set of rules on the continuously monitored second characteristic, the set of rules including a trend or a value of the second characteristic that indicates the health status of the user, thereby indirectly optimizing the benefit related variable indicated by the second characteristic independently of user instruction and/or perception.

Abstract
Apparatus is provided, including a sensor, adapted to generate a sensor signal indicative of biorhythmic activity of a user of the apparatus, the sensor signal having a first characteristic, indicative of a voluntary action of the user, and a second characteristic, indicative of a benefit-related variable of the user. The apparatus also includes a control unit, adapted to receive the sensor signal, and, responsive to the second characteristics generate an output signal which directs the user to modify a parameter of the voluntary action indicated by the first characteristic.
