Systems and methods of device-free motion detection and presence detection
First Claim
1. A method of monitoring an area of interest, the method comprising:
- measuring at each node of a plurality of nodes a measurable physical characteristic of transmitted wireless signals received from one or more other nodes of the plurality of nodes, wherein the plurality of nodes is positioned to monitor an area of interest;
reporting, from each node of the plurality of nodes, values for the measurable physical characteristic of the transmitted wireless signals received from the one or more other nodes of the plurality of nodes; and
processing reported values, tracked over time, using an aggregate disturbance calculation to detect presence of an object within the area of interest, wherein the aggregate disturbance calculation is based on a plurality of reported values over a period of time.

Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for device-free motion detection and presence detection within an area of interest. A plurality of nodes, configured to be arranged around the area of interest, form a wireless network. The plurality of nodes transmit wireless signals as radio waves and receive transmitted wireless signals. The received signal strength (RSS) of the transmitted wireless signals between the plurality of nodes are measured and a value is reported. A computing device receives the reported values for the measured RSS and tracks the reported values over time. The computing device processes the reported values using an aggregate disturbance calculation to detect motion and presence within the area of interest. The computing device may notify notification device of a detected disturbance within the area of interest.

11. A method of detecting motion in an area of interest, the method comprising:
-
monitoring, concurrently, a measurable physical characteristic of wireless signals received at each node of a plurality of nodes positioned to monitor the area of interest, the wireless signals transmitted from one or more other nodes of the plurality of nodes; generating, at each node of the plurality of nodes, a value for the measurable physical characteristic of each transmitted wireless signal received from another node of the plurality of nodes; reporting, from each node of the plurality of nodes, the values for the measurable physical characteristic for processing using an aggregate disturbance calculation to detect a disturbance of wireless signals within the area of interest, the disturbance caused by motion of an object in the area interest, wherein the aggregate disturbance calculation is based on a plurality of reported values over a period of time. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
