1. A method for fragmenting a newsfeed in an enterprise social network comprising:
- receiving, by a computer system, from a first user within the enterprise social network, a selection of an item displayed in a newsfeed on a computer display for the first user, the item including content provided by a second user within the enterprise social network and followed by the first user;
prompting, by the computer system, the first user to make selections that include a selection of a destination newsfeed for the selected item, the destination newsfeed being a different newsfeed from the newsfeed displayed for the first user;
receiving, by the computer system, from the first user (1) a selection of the destination newsfeed for the selected item, (2) a selection of a third user having access to the selected item via the newsfeed and not having prior access to the destination newsfeed and not following the second user, and (3) access permission settings controlling whether the third user is allowed to view and provide comments regarding the selected item on the destination feed; and
publishing, by the computer system, on the selected destination newsfeed, the selected item including a visual identifier indicating that the item has been re-published from the first user and distinguishing between
1) items that the third user having access to the destination feed is following, and
2) items that the third user is not following but have been published in response to a request to publish on the destination newsfeed by the first user.

Abstract
A technique allows a newsfeed item shown in a newsfeed of a social network to be easily promoted to another newsfeed in the social network. In a specific embodiment, the system receives a first user'"'"'s promotion selection of an item displayed in a newsfeed of the first user. The item includes content provided by a second user. The first user is prompted to select a destination newsfeed. A selection of the destination newsfeed is received and the item is published on the destination newsfeed for a third user.

receiving from a first user within the enterprise social network, a selection of an item displayed in a newsfeed displayed for the first user, the item including content provided by a second user within the enterprise social network and followed by the first user; prompting the first user to make selections that include a selection of a destination newsfeed for the selected item, the destination newsfeed being a different newsfeed from the newsfeed displayed for the first user; receiving from the first user (1) a selection of the destination newsfeed for the selected item, (2) a selection of a third user having access to the selected item via the newsfeed and not having prior access to the destination newsfeed and not following the second user, and (3) access permission settings controlling whether the third user is allowed to view and provide comments regarding the selected item on the destination feed; and publishing on the selected destination newsfeed, the selected item including a visual identifier indicating that the item has been re-published from the first user and distinguishing between
