1. A communication device, comprising:
- an absorber comprising radiation absorbent material;
a receiver having an aperture and surrounded by the radiation absorbent material, wherein the receiver receives at the aperture a first electromagnetic wave that propagates along a transmission medium without requiring an electrical return path, and wherein the receiver obtains a first communication signal from the first electromagnetic wave; and
a launcher collocated with the receiver and surrounded by the radiation absorbent material, wherein the launcher induces a second electromagnetic wave that conveys a second communication signal, and wherein the radiation absorbent material absorbs radiation associated with the second electromagnetic wave in proximity to the launcher.

Abstract
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, a system having an absorber and a coupling device. The absorber includes absorbent material that absorbs radiation. The coupling device is positioned in and surrounded by the absorber. The coupling device facilitates transmitting or receiving of an electromagnetic wave along a transmission medium, where the electromagnetic wave propagates along the transmission medium without requiring an electrical return path. Other embodiments are disclosed.
